Dear Ian and Diane,

I was struck by the similarities between effective ES therapies and
autism treatments www.treatingautism.com
http://www.autism.com/treatable/index.htm. The therapies mentioned as
useful for ES sufferers - probably because they are treatments for
the immune system - are very familiar to us.

This is a summary of "biomedical" autism treatments (there are also
some useful rated results
http://www.autism.com/treatable/form34qr.htm#biomedical). Many
vitamins, aminos and minerals, especially B vitamins and magnesium
and zinc, are typically very low. Treating IBS and accompanying
bowel infections (clostridia, yeast, strep and usually several more)
is an on-going challenge for us all. Detoxing the home environment
is very important. Generally the more old fashioned things are the
better. The GFCF diet - also soy free, corn free MSG free is often
the first big improvement. We found the SCD - specific carbohydrate
diet - and "Nourishg Traditions" has helped us. Probiotics and
fermented foods are good. Digestive enzymes (Houston) regularly
have impressive results. Getting B12 up is important as is
supporting methylation and sulfertransferase and detoxing heavy
metals (almost all our children had the mercury preserved vaccines
starting at 6 weeks of age). Our son has "remarkable mercury
toxicity" reported by porphyrin testing (... what have we done to our
children). Thyroid and adrenal support, cranial ostepathy, lymphatic
drainage and EPD for help with allergies and brushing or exercise to
help with retain reflexes and hyperbaric oxygen treatment - are also
useful. Sadly our NHS medical services are a long long way from
helping with much if any of the above. It is therefore very very
expensive but many of our profoundly autistic children are healing
and many too are recovering. Our little boy, Eddie, was early onset
autistic and has been very ill for most of his life. He is now
almost 4 yrs old and passing for normal on good days. We have a long
way to go to improve his health but we have seen the most profound
transformation - and we were told there was nothing we could do to
help him.
Best wishes,
Sandy
