Hi Sandy,
There is a lot of confusion about cell phone shields.
There are 2 points to remember:
1- the entire phone radiates, not just the antenna
2- depending on the design of the phone, a certain % of the radiation is
absorbed by the user's head. This radiation is not useful for the
communication. Ideally, the shield should shield this portion of the
radiation, and still allow the balance of the signal to radiate outward, if
the phone is still to work.
Now, notice this: if instead of encountering a nice absorbent head and being
"wasted", the radiation encounters a nice reflective shield (between the
head and the phone), then you are not reducing the performance of the phone,
you are actually improving it.
Notice further, if you shield the side of the phone away from the head, you
will reduce performance, and increase radiation to the head.
