Hi Vinny,

Well, it's been awhile since I've used an LCD monitor for
any length of time, but I can try to answer some of your
questions:

> * what are your symptoms?

The skin on my face (mostly my cheeks) becomes dry, "hot",
and red. "Burning face" is a good description for me, as
it feels like a sunburn. There may also be headaches,
but I can't remember. Also, using an LCD computer monitor
for any length of time makes me much more sensitive to
overhead fluorescent lighting -- CRTs do not do this.

> * how severe are they?

Severe enough that I've had to abandon using an LCD monitor...
and I've purchased 2 over the last few years... :-/

> * how long must you use the LCD monitor before symptoms appear?

That depends on previous usage. On day one, I probably could
stand it for hours. On day two, about half that time. As time
goes on, my daily tolerance gradually reduces to zero.

> shield/screen, has this helped, and how much?

Yes, I tried using a glass screen with ground wire. It seemed
like it helped a little, but not nearly enough. Also, turning
down the brightness of the backlight helps -- probably more
than the glass screen.

I've found that by using high amounts of Quantum Products
(e.g., Quantum Pro) turned all the way up, this lessens my symptoms,
but doesn't make them go away. I don't require nearly as
much EMF protection for CRT monitors.

Can't recall -- seems to me that I needed something stronger than
that.

I suspect the problem is due to the flourescent backlight, and
am waiting to test that theory as soon as LED backlit
monitors become affordable.
