Our Macs (iBooks, PowerBook) let us switch off the WiFi too. Both my
husband and I can tell the difference--bad headache goes away. But I
prefer a desktop model where I can not only turn off the WiFi but
also move the CPU some distance away. Too buzzy if it's right on the
desk or near my foot. I tried different desktops and laptops before
buying my new computer back in October 2005. Chose a desktop Mac,
but if I had my heart set on a laptop I'd get a Hewlett Packard, and
stay away from Toshibas. Just based on my subjective observation of
EMF "noise" generated by different makes/models. I don't remember
what I thought of the IBM ThinkPad.

One other thought: if you want a laptop because you can run it on
battery, consider getting a separate keyboard just so you don't have
to rest your hands right on the machine. It's inconvenient, but the
extra distance between you and the computer might be worth it.

Good luck.
