My wife's laptop (IBM Thinkpad) has an option where you can turn
off the radio transmitter. I can definitely tell the difference
with it on vs. off.
I hope that you have established that a laptop will actually
work better for you than a desktop. I find laptops harder
to handle, personally. All the electronics is right there
next to your body, while with a desktop you can increase
your distance from both the CPU and the monitor.
