Hi Ian and Sue,

Indeed, chelation is very difficult especially when damage has been done to the intestines.
Leaky gut and candida infections are often also *caused* by mercury, so this makes it even more difficult.

What helps for me is keeping the urine pH below 6.4 . If it's not below 6.4 I don't chelate using lipoic acid.
I use the Reams Biological Theory of Ionization to manage the bio-terrain.
Without it, chelation would be very, very difficult, if not impossible.
When the pH gets too high, for me this means I get severe redistribution problems and emotional problems, depression, extreme sadness, sleepyness, weakness.
Higher pH's are also correlated with constipation, especially when mercury toxicity is also present, as mercury destroys the nerve endings in the intestines, slowing down peristalsis.
If, however, I keep my pH in the right region, it works marvelously and I feel great, energetic and emotionally stable.
I chelate at 8 x 100mg alpha-lipoic acid per day, every 3 hours 100 mg and it works very well.

Chlorella works very poorly and seems to give only redistribution problems to me, even when my pH's are right.
NDF, I am not sure about. I do notice that the NDF stays in the system for up to about 8 days, because the stool keeps it black colour (which the chlorella component probably does).
I have decided to stop using NDF for a while and go back to using only lipoic acid, using the protocol described in Andrew Cutler's book.

If you think you have mercury toxicity I strongly suggest you buy his book, at www.noamalgam.com .
Whatever you do next, you will have a much better understanding of what's going on in you body.
Yes, many chemical substances are promoted in his book to manage symptoms, but I've decided I won't use them.
I only use the lipoic acid and a large amount of vitamin supplements and mineral supplements.

If you don't read the book, you will very likely aggravate the problem if you decide to just try some different chelators..

Good luck,
