We'd seen explanations that when mercury is chelated, e.g. by alpha-lipoic acid, it then needs to be eliminated from the body. If the liver or associated systems aren't working well, the chelated mercury then gets released back again and it was suggested that it could indeed move to parts of the body where it did more harm than before, like the brain. Sue has felt this has happened to her a couple of times when she has chelated - she felt worse than ever after a few hours.

The broad thrust of different writings seemed to be that there are two elimination mechanisms - via the bile (and then the gut) or the kidneys (more for water-soluble compounds - the bile route is more for fat-soluble ones). With the bile route, if you have "leaky gut" (e.g. due to past severe candida) it is postulated that the bile and mercury get reabsorbed into the bloodstream before they can pass through the gut and be eliminated. Chlorella and activated charcoal have been suggested as ways to try to capture it before it is reabsorbed. For NDF, which is a very finely divided form of chlorella, the publicity states that it is water-soluble, so should mop up the mercury and expel it via the kidneys, thus giving a safe route even for leaky gut sufferers. However, when Sue tried NDF, she still got side reactions, even on an extremely low dose.

There are testimonies of one method or another working for various people, but so far we have not found any chelation route which didn't give Sue worse symptoms than her normal levels (not usually heightened ES, but a "black fog" of suicidal depression which clearly felt chemically induced.)

You're probably redistributing mercury into the brain and nervous system with the lipoic acid.
More and more I get the idea that EMF sensitivity is very often plain chronic mercury intoxication.
Lipoic acid is a chelator, but about 3-4 hours after taking it, it is metabolised by the body and it drops the mercury back into the blood stream, from where it will flow into the brains, nervous system and critical organs.

My advice:
Stop the lipoic acid supplements immediately, get the book from www.noamalgam.com and *read* it and then reread it. Then decide to do something (taking out all amalgam or not, chelating or not).

I've been chelating for 10 weeks using lipoic acid (in a very strict protocol, otherwise it will only redistribute), and I'm getting quite convinced that the EMF sensitivity is reducing. I also feel a lot better, physically, mentally and emotionally.
It will take a lot longer than the 10 weeks to get all mercury out. All of it will have to get out to completely heal the EMF sensitivity. Based on my experience, I think the protocol in the book mentioned above is the best. The problem with coriander and chlorella and other so-called chelators (which they often aren't) is that they will cause more redistribution than excretion, hence worsening symptoms.

It will at least take a few days (after stopping the lipoic acid) for the sensitivity to decrease (for the body to remove all mercury from the bloodstream) and possibly the sensitivity will have increased semi-permanently because more mercury has entered the brain and nervous system.
