I have read that as much as 50% of the body of new computers is composed
of fire retardant chemicals. The smell is strongest when the computer is
new, but it will continue to outgas indefinitely. Unfortunately, most small
appliances these days are made of plastics. One thing that will help to some
extent is to buy used items that have done their initial outgassing in
somebody else's home. Or a demonstration model that has been sitting on the shelf
a long time, vs. one that is still in its plastic packaging.
What is being outgassed is not just fire retardant. We make a big  
mistake if we think it is "JUST plastic heating up." Plastics are
continually outgassing their toxic components. There are very eye-openingarticles on

"When you eat or drink things stored in plastic, wear plastic, sit on
plastic, taste it, smell
it, and so on, plastic is incorporated into you." It not only causes
cancer but it really messes up our endocrine system.
Electrical sensitivity is an issue that involves FREQUENCY. ES people
react to specific frequencies. Every element has its own specific
frequency. This is why any substance can be identified by spectrum analysis. CS
and ES people are sensitive to materials of particular frequencies.  
This is why it makes sense to simply rid our personal environment of the
frequencies found to be most harmful, rather than to rely on pendants and
other gizmos that promise to somehow magically render the radiation harmless.    
Why spend money on gizmo after gizmo that makes no measurable difference in
the frequencies present, and some of which actually add harmful frequencies,
when there are now filters available (www.stetzerelectric.com or
www.electricalpollution.com) that actually remove these frequencies, and that have good
research re. the effects?    
Yes, there still remain the wireless frequencies, but there also still
remains to be research done on how much effect the airborne signals have if
those in the wiring are removed. The ground installations that support the
broadcast towers of the airborne frequencies all create frequencies that travel
on the ground and thus make their way to your household wiring.
