As far as I know (and I'm not an expert), the DirecTV Satellite dish
setup requires that you send your information via a modem and phone
line, while you download information from the dish.

However, even though the dish is only receiving information, I have
read in a couple of places that there still remains a concentration
of harmful "longitudinal waves" (whatever these are) surrounding
the dish, so the dish could still be harmful to you if you are
close to it.
