It is my understanding that the last thing a person who already has a
compromised immune system needs is the damage done to immunity by antibiotics.
When people are ill they tend to comply with doctor's drug prescribing out
of fear of consequences, but there may be far better alternatives.
There are many natural substances that kill bacteria and even virus,
that do not have the side effects that antibiotics do. Two "miraculous"
natural substances that do not harm our beneficial bacteria are turmeric and
unrefined coconut oil. Both of these are antibacterial, antifungal, antithis and
that and even antiviral. There are also many things derived from plants that
are antibacterial, etc. such as oregano oil, olive leaf extract, etc.
If you do go with drugs, then much more effort will have to be made
afterwards to repair the damage. Many people think eating yogurt will
replenish intentinal flora, but the intestines are home to MANY natural bacteria.
And yogurt made from pasteurized, homogenized milk is NOT healthful. A
good probiotic is needed. And lots of lactofermented foods. You can make
these yourselves.

Shivani

RE: reply to Ian & Sue re antibiotics

Ian Kemp
We recognize that there is a strong school of thought that antibiotics
should be avoided and that other more "natural" methods should be used.
Indeed, Sue's first illness was, we believe, as a result of prolonged
antibiotic treatment before her wisdom teeth were removed. Conventional
methods did not help until she applied a strict anti-candida diet with
probiotics, which restored her to nearly full health over a period of some
months. Since then Sue has avoided antibiotics virtually completely.

However, there is also the "exception which proves the rule". Over the last
3 years Sue took many different supplements and "alternative" medicines and
tried various detox regimes to try to reverse the deterioration in her
immune system, which has eventually led to her developing ES. None of these
seemed to have any positive effect. Eventually we went to the private
Breakspear Hospital (UK) and they did a large number of tests, some of which
have shown good reasons why Sue's immune system and liver are not
functioning well, and after treatment with intravenous infusions etc, for
the first time we have seen some gradual improvement in Sue's condition
(e.g. weight gain, reduction of multiple chemical sensitivity). They use a
very wide range of remedies, including homeopathic, and generally avoid
antibiotics, but in this case their judgement of Sue's condition is that,
for this particular surgery, antibiotics are the best and safest way to
ensure that no dangerous bacteria get into her system and cause further
problems. It is not ideal, but the "least worst" choice. Of course Sue
will be making sure to have plenty of probiotics afterwards, and we get
these from a reputable specialist supplier whose products really do contain
genuine beneficial bacteria! Incidentally Sue cooks a lot with turmeric,
but unfortunately has developed an intolerance to coconut during her illness
- a pity, because she (and I) really like it!
