Dear Friends,
I would like to hear back from someone who has knowledge or
experience in electrical sensitivity regarding the hearing aid
technology which utilizes so-called "ear-to-ear" communication
between the two ear-mounted devices to keep them processing sound in
harmony with each other. I won't bore you with details on how
command and status messages are employed to balance the two devices.
Oticon, a Danish manufacturer of such hearing aids, advises that the
transmission frequency is 3.84 MHz [which is in the "high frequency"
band, thankfully not up in the microwave] at what they say is a very
low level measured "at 10 meters."
My concern is that the brain is more like 10 millimeters away from
the instrument, not 10 meters. Since power goes up as the square of
the distance ratio, the power level at the brain cells might approach
one million times the amount specified for 10 meters out! I did the math.
Are any of you aware of any critics of this hearing-aid technology?
Thanks,
Larry Plumlee
