Many years ago, I was given the name and email address of someone in Florida whose first name was Charles, if I remember rightly, who shielded computers with mu-metal. I think it was someone on this forum who gave me the information. Does any know who I am talking about? I sent my laptop to him and he shielded it; now I need to buy another laptop and would like to get it shielded as well.
laptops are hard to shield.
better keep maximum distance.
you can use a mouse and an external keyboard and shield the whole thing except for the screen, e.g. in aluminium foil or fine stainless steel gauze.
the MOST important thing is to ground the laptop in case the charger is ungrounded, or only use it on the battery.
otherwise very strong and in some cases even enormous electrical fields will emit from the laptop.
you can plug an usb extension cable into the machine and ground the outer part of the plug at the other end of the cable.
this is the most easy option that will do the trick.
you can also replace the charger ( same voltage, no less power ) by one that is fed with a 3-prong cable.
the socket in which the electricity plug goes should of course be grounded as well.
