my ears pricked up when Ian mentioned glutathione because I, in my
desperation to find a solution, have also stumbled across this amino acid. I'm wondering if you know anything about microglial cells, Ian, or if the ppl at Breakspear have mentioned them. I am certain they are involved in my own ES, because there is a scientific study which has shown that the chinese herb i took SURPRESSES the action of the microglial cells, as it does the entire immune system (of which these cells are a part, tho' they are only present in the brain). The herb is being investigated as a possible drug for Parkinsons, where the microglial cells are overacitve. Microglial cells maintain the brain's immune system and in a healthy person are mainly just involved in surveillance and only come into action in the case of brain injury/damage. But in parkinsons these cells become OVERACTIVE and start to attack healthy tissue. My belief is that this herb suppressed my perfecctly healthy microglial cells for 18 months and eversince they have gone barmy, over-reacting to the slightest external changes (especially of an EMF/magnetic nature) resulting in one of my nastiest, and unique?, symptoms which is this horrendous brain heating/inflammation. Towards the end of my time on the herb i had many of the symptoms of parkinsons, and retain all of those symptoms even now but to a MUCH lesser extent. When my exposure to EMFs increases, these symptoms become more pronounced. (I know that there are also many similarities between ES and Multiple Sclerosis) Anyway, so i started to research alternative remedies for parkinsons as i thought this might be a 'way in' to my own illness, and came accross references to the amino acid NAC and also to GLUTATHIONE. I had not tried any amino acids at all before. So I bouoght Solgar's amino 75 and also some NAC as they didn't have glutathione in stock. But while i awaited the arrival of my glutathione order i returned to that old question. Why is my body not making these substances for itself? And I realised after a bit more research that amino acids come from protein, something whihc i've felt for a while i haven't been able to get enough of. So I ended up buying some whey protein and there is no doubt that i needed it. It is by no means the end of the ES story but it is another step forward. I feel a little more resilient and my brain does not become inflamed so quickly. (the problem is the protein tends to make me feel hyper at night). but now you mention about the glutathione i'm wondering about it again. did sue try taking it internally? i am interested in this avenue, but i also think sometimes that even if these microglial cells ARE malfunctioning, they are just part of the immune system as a whole so the problem is bigger than that. What i'm saying is that the solution is more likely to come from a holistic approach to boost the whole system than from supplementing certain chemicals. Ho hum. |
