external hard drive

Paresh
I do OK with my computer but once/week I back up to an external hard drive which I am sensitive to. What is the simplest way to create some kind of barrier? Would just aluminum foil work? Thanks.
blessings,
Paresh

Assuming you want to shield magnetic field, aluminum foil will have no
effect. You can make a (very effective) simple box out of Magnetic Shielding
Foil. See http://www.lessemf.com/mag-shld.html

You can make a cases out of mu metal for the
drive and power supply. See the "computer shield"
link on the web page below. Notice the cylindrical
shape. Such a shield is very effective in reducing
magnetic fields, and ES symptoms. Don't forget to
ground the case, and you may need a fan.

Re: external hard drive

BiBrun
Hold a portable AM radio near the drive when it is working.
If it makes a worse noise than when near the computer, it
could be an RF issue. This is cheaper to shield than magnetic
fields, but not trivial. I doubt aluminum foil will do it (unless it is
very thick), but fly
screen might (or try expanded copper, available at craft stores?).
If the case is metal grounding it might make all the difference.

Maybe you can just back up to a thumb drive??

Good luck
Bill
