blu ray vs DVD recorder

Anyone know if blu ray is worse than an ordinary DVD recorder? Thanks.

I find that the high-def signals can be harder to tolerate (higher
frequencies involved, digital signals traveling over HDMI cable, etc.).
Although it may just be the equipment I happened to have purchased.
I'm planning on buying a 2nd Bluray player to see if it is any
easier to tolerate than the 1st one I bought.
