But it seems to me that a laptop radiates in all directions, and
putting a shield on the bottom is not a "complete" solution.
Also, if that shield works by reflection, then there is more
EMF being directed elsewhere (e.g., your heart, your brain).

I would think that the best laptop solutions involve getting
the laptop as far away from you as possible.

Yes, and put it on a table, not on your lap.
And earth it if it isn't already through the power supply.
And shield the surfaces facing you.
Or use a shielded external earthed monitor, that's what i do.
Not perfect, which would be to stay away as much and far as possible.
So, another crap product indeed and a rip-off.
