Wired internet connection.

Hi All,
Currently I use a wireless airport express for internet connection (we have three Mac laptops in the family). I want to replace it for a wired connection.
We have a Comcast 15Mb service. Exactly what is it I need to buy?
I am no expert, my guess is to get a desktop switch (like this one: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGS-1005G-5-Port-Gigabit-Desktop/dp/B003X7TRWE/ref=pd_cp_e_1) and also get some shielded cables for the laptops to connect to the switch (liek this: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Screened-Shielded-Snagless/dp/B004NPOPWW/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1340020659&sr=1-3&keywords=shielded+ethernet+cable).
Am I correct?

Yes, an Ethernet "switch" is what we use for our DSL. I'm using
one from Netgear (blue metal case).

I didn't like the "feel" of the ethernet cables with shielding --
I'd stick with the regular cables, personally.

Shall I hook this directly to the cable modem - or a separate router is also needed? Thank you!

I just hook my ethernet switch up to my DSL modem, via an ethernet cable.

If you plan on replacing the Airport Express, you will need a router, because each computer needs its own unique IP address, and Comcast is only giving you one. Routers will assign unique private IP addresses to all of your computers, solving that problem.

But the Airport Express has two Ethernet ports, and it is a router, so you could connect the switch to it. The only question then is whether it is possible to turn off Wi-Fi on the Airport Express.
