I do. Have been using it for over a year. And using distilled water, and adding your own trace mineralsis another option too. Lizzie

I posted a request from Lizzie, I think, asking for a test run of her Berkey for me, but she hasn't done it yet.  It might help Kathy to decide too.

My Berkey with its fluoride filters causes the water to come out a bit chalky.  The Berkey people said that was due to its breaking down the minerals into tiny pieces that stay in the bottom of my pan when I boil it.  Doesn't make sense to me.

So I poured distilled water through my Berkey and it still came out murky, thus it was causing the particles, not picking them up from the tap water.  I used distilled and the Berkey made the particles.

I asked Lizzie to test hers to see if it did that, and she said she would, but she hasn't done it yet.  Might want to wait for that test, Kathy.

Sorry Marji, I did do that, just got distracted with stuff. Here's what i found:no film now. (boiling water in pan) but I remembered back 6-8 mths ago, and I did get a whitish filmon my glass jugs, I use for my water. I changed my Flouride filters, I scrubbed my carbon filters....no more white film.  Something else to keep in mind here is this: when buying water , be it distilled or R/O, from the water machinesat the stores, or plant where they are distilling the water..something may be "off" at their end. I can't know absolutely, what "their" quality controls are. Right now, I am not getting any white film. Lizzie

Thank you for doing that, Lizzie, that is a tremendous help to me!
I will ask Berkey to change the fluoride filters as you did.  Would you mind if I copy your letter here (minus identifying name) to enclose with my request for new fluoride filters?  I don't want them to think I'm nuts or picky.  Your experience should help me persuade them to exchange mine.  If this works I'd recommend a Berkey to anyone.

i have a berkey also. when i first got mine i kept running water thru through the fluoride filter for a LONG time.mine was also comming out very murkey white.i just kept turning the filter over, running the water thru until no more white, until it was clear.now i might ad that if i drank i would have sat on my stool witth several cans of beer and did this because it was extremly time consuming.i will also add that after this process was over i had the most clearest  and great tasting water.also when i would boil it there never was any kind of film left in the pan. i am buying the filters again and will go thru the whole process of running the water through all filters again.it took way over an hour-but if i want clean water then i will do this. hpoe this helps. blessings, janet

Kathy,

I'm a physician now, yet I was involved in selling a water treatment device for pools and spas some time ago. "Swim in water pure enough to drink" we'd say (no chlorine - ionizer). Recently I researched water for weeks -for both day-to-day and for emergencies. After OCD-ing over every detail, I knew I'd found waht I was looking for and became a distributor. Yup, Berkeys have no competition in an emergency, and are the best for many (but not all) day-to-day applications as well.

At this point I could write a book about it....yet am trying to learn how to spend my time more wisely - lol.

Ask away!

(I sent you a personal note)

As a physician distributor with a touch of OCD and as I understand it, the additional fluoride filters [PF-2] use a form of aluminum to bind with the dangerous arsenic. Perhaps the white film is that harmless bound, inert substance (vs. the harmful, active arsenic)? Of course the company would know for sure. When the two are bound, it's about as harmful as clay, still, we all understandably want clear water.

The PF-2s also require being flushed before use (I don't think they need to be reversed) -again, the company would know. Also, the PF-2s will go for 1,000 gallons each (2,000 for the pair) where the Black Berkey purification elements will go for a combined 6,000 gallons (3,000 gal each).

I feel fortunate I don't need the PF-2s...and to have found the Berkeys; they rock!

What's this?  We have a physician on the electrical sensitivity group?
Will wonders never cease?  :-)

Yes! They will never cease! I'm a DC, an open-minded skeptic, a research freak, and I believe in the truth, even if it doesn't always set us free...lol?
