I've been using "Line2" (line2.com), which allows you hardwired:
-- send & receive SMS & MMS text messages -- call & receive voice phone calls (via USB handset / headset / phone) -- receive voicemails when you're not available (also emailed to you with MP3 attachments) So that's everything you'd want from a cellphone, but hardwired. There are apps that you can use to access all this from either a desktop, laptop, tablet, or iPhone/Android phone. It does cost money though. Marc |
Marc, Explain how this works.. I appreciate it. Kathy On Thu, Oct 4, 2018 at 1:36 PM Marc Martin [via ES] <[hidden email]> wrote: I've been using "Line2" (line2.com), which allows you hardwired: |

What would you like to know? It should be all explained on their website. You sign up, they give you a virtual phone number, and you download the app for whatever hardware you want to use it on. You can make & receive calls through the app (using a USB phone on a desktop/PC). You can send & receive text messages through the app (using your keyboard on the desktop/laptop). You can playback voicemails through the app (via your computer speakers), and you can also have them emailed to you.
I would have preferred it if you could receive notifications of text messages via email, but it doesn't do that. You must use the app to see if you have a text message. Also, the phone number they give you is officially classified as a "VOIP phone number", so there are occasions where a website will ask you for a mobile phone number and it will not accept this, because technically it's not a mobile phone number. I don't know what the safest headsets are -- probably the ones with a speakerphone. Ive got a very nice PolyCom USB phone that looks sort of like a regular phone, but also has a speakerphone. |
Was your PolyCom USB phone offered in a packadge with Line2 or did you buy it s On Thu, Oct 4, 2018 at 1:47 PM Marc Martin [via ES] <[hidden email]> wrote: > What are the safest headsets Marc? |

I don't have anything that's blutooth. Everything has a wire. But you can get USB phones that look like regular phones.

I bought my PolyCom phone on eBay, as the model was about 10 years old.

This is the USB phone I'm using at home, the Polycom CX200. I haven't noticed it causing me any problems:
