Unexpectedly HIGH RF from a toy

Elle
Some of you may recall I was having pressure and inflammation recently using my hardwired iMac... I think I found the actual source.

Since I did not think I had ES prior to July 2019, there were things I bought and a life I lived prior to my total avoidance of RF now...

https://www.amazon.com/Original-BB-8-Sphero-Droid-Trainer/dp/B0107H5FJ6

One of these BB8 star wars robot toys was bought years ago and sat on a desk about 2 feet from me when I was working.  I nearly forgot all about it because I don't use it or plug it in.

It seems my partner kept regularly plugging it in so the battery would not die.

This TOY was throwing crazy high numbers of RF and we have no idea what it was even doing, since we have no wireless device to pair it to.  The numbers were really high, high enough to penetrate a wall and travel about 15 feet to this desktop computer area I use now.  It made me thing the 0.0300's I was getting was from my iMac.  Now with BB8 covered by a metal pan, my iMac is only reading 0.0005 to 0.0010...   I am not getting the heavy pain in my eye area.

Amazing how many children must have rooms loaded with so much RF from the most unassuming threats.

Since this toy utilizes a phone as an add on way to use the toy...
I was surprised to see this in their User Manual (to me, it's like an acknowledgement that LTE/4g pulse is known to cause seizures):

Seizure, Blackouts and Eyestrain
A small percentage of people may be susceptible to blackouts or seizures (even if they have never had one before) when exposed to flashing lights or
patterns such as when playing games or watching video. If you have experienced seizures or blackouts or have a family history of such occurrences,
consult a physician before playing video games or watching videos. Discontinue use of BB-8 App Enabled Droid and your smart device controller and consult a physician if you experience headaches, blackouts, seizures, convulsion, eye or muscle twitching, loss of awareness, involuntary movement, or disorientation. To reduce risk of headaches, blackouts, seizures, and eyestrain, avoid prolonged use, hold your smart device controller some distance from your eyes, use BB-8 App Enabled Droid in a well-lit room, and take frequent breaks.

Hello Elle, I wish you a speedy recovery! Also to your toy experience, i want to add to the comunity info about certain POWER DRILLS that have bluetooth and wifi conectivity when the batteries are conected, (mostly newer models) for all to who this might pertain when buying power tools do not get those,. they caused some aggravation as well!

The IoT is a nightmare.  I find it appalling that every new product has "connectivity".  It's dangerous and overwhelming to all biological life.  The human species is most peculiar how it pushes limits and acts with little to no regard for the environment.
Also, many people smoke (and have started in the last 10 years including electronic devices).... that should say a lot about intelligence and health/environmental regard...

Then the consumers bring these "smart/connected" items gladly into their home and their body and do't ask any questions about health, privacy, and environment.

Elle, what meter did you use?

My ED88T usually shows a low-frequency magnetic field from anything with a motor.

Karl,

I just got a new Cornet yesterday I think it is the 88T Plus.
Still learning all the features.

If I need help with the other functions apart from RF maybe you can give me some parameters for checking low frequency magnetic.. specifically what is considered OK number-wise (especially for ES people).

Thanks!

I'm not sure.  Lots of people here say that LF fields don't cause them problems, but a few of us try to reduce them.  I can't get them very low here because the ambient level (from nearby power lines and such) is moderately high.

What I can say is that when I replaced switching power supplies (like small e-reader chargers) with older transformer-based power supplies (the big, boxy, heavy ones), I felt bad in a different way.  To feel OK I had to use toroidal transformers, surround them with thick steel and place them pretty far away from me.

Wow, Karl, sorry about your sensitivity.  Thanks for sharing the things that have helped you!

Thanks for your sympathy, Elle.  Honestly it's not as bad as it sounds.  Mostly the problems I have are with poor sleep and concentration, not acute pain.  (Modest pain usually doesn't bother me so much.)

Sometimes you don't think that the usual things at first glance can give such radiation. A friend of mine ordered a neck massager, and everything was fine, but the overall feeling was getting worse. When we tested it for radiation, it went off the scale.

Elle, this is all normal.  Your car reading in the video is actually not high at all compared to things I've seen. I would very likely say the LF in that car is the bigger problem, but yes RF at 20 is not good either at all, but I've seen Cornet maxed at around 2000 plenty of times from anything like cell phones to wifi gadgets, laptops, cordless phones, etc.
Even if a phone today shows 1mW, move it to a bad reception place and it could jump to 2000 easily.

Also, just a note that Cornet RF is quite terrible at accuracy, whatever it measures could be 2X-10X stronger than it shows in RF mode.. and I found typically it's 2-3X stronger than it shows. So if you see 20, likely it's 40 or 60mW.. and that's comparing with my Acousticom2. But again, Acousticom could be also lower than it should, accurate measurement is difficult with these cheap meters.

Re: Unexpectedly HIGH RF from a toy

Fog Top
Something that often confuses me when switching RF reads from one analyzer to another is that my HF35C measures microwatts meter squared (uW/wm2) while the Cornet measures milliwatts meter2 (mW/w2).  One milliwatt from a Cornet is 1000 microwatts
microwatts on the sensitive HF35C.  I've seen the same when using a friend's Acoustimeter vs the Cornet. The Acoustimeter & HF35C will "see" things that a Cornet will not "see".

Anything connects wireless to a phone like that, that's a drone or drone like product is bound to be terrible. I actually got a small one t play around with for christmas last year but I couldn't handle it in minutes. Even if you're charging something you can still feel it. Happened with a digital camera I'm now about to sell for another hobby because I just couldn't deal with it anymore even for beautiful photos. If it was in my backpack I had to remove the battery between shots because even when it wasn't on with the battery inside it I would still not feel good.
