Please take a moment to support Dr. Olle Johansson by writing a supportive letter as soon as possible. The Karolinska Institute, which seems to be bowing to industry forces, is forcing him into retirement. He is appealing the
decision. (His last day is November 1, 2017.) Supposedly they do not have the funds to allow him to continue, however funding continues for less important work. Write a letter of support to the addresses below.
If you have written a letter of support in the past, feel free to send that again. The Vice-Chancellor Professor Olle Petter Otterson is new to his position and will not have seen it. There is a recommended final paragraph below that you may want to make
sure you add. It has to do with making sure the letter gets properly logged and acknowledged, as required under Swedish law.
His work is of great importance as electrosensitivity is classified as a disability under Swedish law which requires remediation of the environment to allow disabled people equal
access to society. Electrosensitivity is an environmentally-induced functional impairment. How is the Karolinska Institute going to help Swedish society move forward with allowing full integration of people with electrosensitivity into society if they forcibly
retire one of the foremost experts on the topic. Furthermore, the EUROPAEM [European Academy for Environmental Medicine] EMF Guideline 2016 for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of EMF-related health problems and illnesses makes it clear that minimizing
RF/EMF exposures in society is important not just to allow those who have already been over-exposed to RF/EMF to participate in society, but also to prevent others from becoming over-exposed. The threats as you know are myriad, but include cancer with experts

At the end of the letter, add the following very important paragraph: This letter shall be registered according to Swedish law by the "Registrator" (or equivalent); I request "diarienummer, dnr" (or equivalent) with immediate returning e-mail to my e-mail address as confirmation that the attached letter has been received. I also want to know the name of the manager of my letter - even if you, professor Ottersen, do this - as well as estimated response time within the stipulated 3-week period.

Without knowing who we are to support, is hard to write something... It's sad that people like him are being forced into retirement. |

Ok I sent the emails, but one email was stuck... Missing domain, it seems (incomplete email).
It's a bit of a work to send each email every time with copies... Next time, write down their emails so that I can simply copy-paste these and send in one email with Forwarding to all (otherwise, it takes too long....). |

This is what I received in regards to his position: Dear All, Thank you for your letters where you express concern about Mr Johansson, the research on sensitivity to radiofrequency radiation, the treatment in society of functionally disabled in this regard and the integrity of research among other issues. Since your letters are all fairly similar and for several of them, parts almost identical, we choose to reply to you all with this letter. Despite its name, Karolinska Institutet is a university and not a research institute. It is an institution under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Science, and as such abides by the regulations governing the higher education sector such as the Higher Education Act and the Higher Education Ordinance. The Act refers to the notion of freedom of research as freedom to choose research topic, to develop research methodologies, and to publish research results. Research work is however also affected by a framework of rules on for examples ethics in research, occupational safety issues and not least research integrity. And then there is the limiting factor of funding. The notice and offer of early retirement for Mr Johansson is due to lack of funding. Academic research is, to a large extent, dependent on competitive external funding. A researcher at Karolinska Institutet has to finance his/her research at the university by submitting project proposals to external funding sources such as research councils, specialized agencies, trusts and foundations, and international research programmes. It is then up to the external funding body to prioritize among received proposals. The amount of funding needed can only be determined by the researcher him/herself in relation to the planned research and overhead costs. Mr Johansson and his group did not receive any external funding since 2011, and even before that, external funding was scarce. The research department can no longer subsidise the group and the research in question therefore lacks funding. As said previously, Karolinska Institutet is a university with the core tasks of education and research. For policy, regulatory framework and follow-up on radiofrequency radiation and functional disabilities there are specialized government agencies such as the Public Health Agency, the National Board of Health and Welfare, the Swedish Work Environment Authority, the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the Swedish Agency for Participation.
