Stereos can be harmful, even car 12v ones

A recent Facebook poster says he's sensitive to his FM stereo.    I can sympathize because I've been very sensitive to my car stereo.  I can't stand to have it on for more than a minute.  You may think "That's just Dave, not me" but you never know when a sensitivity will break through your body's defenses until it happens.

One solution is to get a boombox with a remote control so you don't have to get close to the radio to switch stations.  Most boomboxes can be run off of AC, batteries or a 12v adaptor in your car.   And it's way better if the boombox has a very small LCD display, or none at all if you can find one like that.

Another way to reduce EMF from your radio in your car is to use the balance controls to direct all sound to the passenger side, preferably just the front or rear speaker only.  Doesn't render stereo well, but AM is not stereo, it will sound okay.  My personal experience is that I get very EMF-sick with balanced speakers, but directing it to one speaker creates no significant problems.

Also remember that the lower the volume on any radio, the lower the EMF because the speaker cables are carrying less power.

WOW, don't get me started.
It seems that my condition is not as sensitive as yours, but the number of audio equipment, I had to give up on, is too long to write down.
I am an audiophile (bigger level).
One of the first things that caused me trouble and clicked my EHS in was the audio system in my car. The amps, the Bluetooth(when I forgot it on), and even a small MP3 player, or EMI from the audio system could make me feel sick.  I minimized the system and tried different types of players-radio-speakers--setup until found the right combination for me.
Also In my home-office room, I had to give up on high-end equipment.
Today I am using an android device in my car (WIFI/BT are turned off), no subwoofer, no amps.
In my living room, I have a decent system (Cambridge Audio 540R +350C + DVD + Speakers that I have built ) that is located far enough so I can use it for a couple of hours.
In my home office, I have a small bookshelf speaker connected to the wired laptop via a USB powered earphone amp.

I do quite well with some audio equipment, although none of it's very new.  Certainly all of it came out before USB, Bluetooth, and Class D/T amplification.  But if you go back and use stuff that is technology from 10 - 20 years ago, it's fine.  You know, Class B amplification, RCA stereo connector cables, speaker wires, unpowered speakers, amps powered by internal power supplies and using AC power cords.  Since my ES began 20+ years ago, that's what I was using back then anyway.  It's the new stuff that's problematic.

As for MP3 players, the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ or E2xx series running the Rockbox OS are both fine for me.  Although lots of MP3 players are not fine for me.

I drive a 2004 Chevy Venture minivan which probably uses tech from the 1990s.  That's where I got sensitive to stereo usage.  It probably has the older type of wiring.

Anyway I'm happy to be able to listen to  music  now.
