In Italy they have also started implementing smart meters,
But those smart meters are NOT wireless... More information here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/73934074/Non-wireless-Smart-Meters <http://www.scribd.com/doc/73934074/Non-wireless-Smart-Meters> I hope we can convince the politicians that non-wireless is the intelligent choice... I wish they would ban smart meters altogether. Besides the RF issues
(HUGE), even with a non-wireless meter, it's nobody's business when I'm using electricity/gas. If my bill is too high, I know how to cut down on my usage. Smart meters are for the benefit of the power companies, to be able to institute Time of Use pricing, and tiered-pricing within those time periods. They also want to build profiles of me so they can sell that information to marketers, insurance companies, law enforcement and the like. I don't want outsiders "spying" on me through a device put on my home, nor creating a scenario where I have to do my laundry at 1 a.m. to save money on my utility bill, thus altering my lifestyle. I believe studies have shown that there are no cost savings to people with smart meters. Here in California, the CPUC granted PG&E a rate increase on low energy users and a rate decrease on high energy users. So how is it going to benefit customers who go through all sorts of contortions to use less energy, avoiding higher-priced peak energy use time, when the rates are higher for lower use? I see it as a huge manipulation of customers for the benefit of the utility company, and it infuriates me! I wish they would ban smart meters altogether... Couldn't agree more with everything you write here! But non-wireless smart meters is still a lot better than wireless smart meters... In one month a great book on smart meters by Dr. Isaac Jamieson (UK) will be available for free in pdf, he discusses not only the health issues, but also privacy issues and the vulnerability of the system (for instance for solar flares). --- In [hidden email], Esther LeSieur <gomma@...> wrote: > > I wish they would ban smart meters altogether.
