Smart Meter removal

steve
We received approval to opt out of smart meters. Problem is I live in an apt. building which has 4 meters outside my bedroom. I can get mine replaced with analogue for $75 plus there will be a monthly charge of $10/month.
I don't know if just removing one will help but I'm going to do it.

Steve,

That is great that you got an opt out for your Smart Meter, but the other 3 meters OUTSIDE OF YOUR BEDROOM, are going to be a problem.  If I were you, I would move!  No apartment is worth killing yourself over.  At the very least, can you try to move to another unit in the building away from the meters, or can you put up sheilding on the wall and floor?  What floor is your unit on and where in proximity to your unit are the meters located?  That will make a difference in how and if you can shield yourself to some extent.  YIKES!!!

I have a wood floor and I'm on the second floor. The Meters are on the first floor almost directly under my bathroom. My bedroom is about 6 feet away from there.

Re: Smart Meter removal

C.a.b. Johnson
Steve,

Personally, I would flee from that building or at the very least from that unit,  3 Smart Meters in such close proximity to your apartment is like having a Cell Phone Tower in your apartment or worse,  But as we all so painfully know, it is getting hard to find someplace to flee to.

If you insist on staying in that unit, I think you should relocate your sleeping area to the other side of the apartment as far away from the Smart Meters as possible.  AND, if you do not have a microwave meter, I think you should get one so you will know where to put up the shiedling material that you should be buying to install in the bedroom and bathroom.  Maybe you should consider using sheet metal, hardware screen, or some other material.  After a year and a half, I am still trying to figure out how to shield my bathroom from microwaves penetrating through the shower walls.  I have sheilding material up over the shower curtain, but, as it is, I am getting beamed whenever I step inside to take a shower.

Unfortunately, i am afraid after considerable expense and time trying to shield yourself, you will find the radiation still penetrating into your apartment through this way and that.  The money you are going to be spending to protect yourself from this hazardous radiation is going to continue to escalate, making it debatable if staying in that apartment is actually worth it.,  When your health starts to suffer, there will be more expenses of every imaginable kind.

If when you were filling out your Rental Agreement they asked you to put down a $10,000 to $20,000 US non refundable deposit, you probably would not have signed the agreement.  Well, by staying there, you are signing that agreement.

I cannot sleep in my bedroom in an apartment that I am paying plenty for, because the Cell Tower radiation penetrating the walls is so bad.  I have totally enveloped the entire bedroom in grounded hardware screen, except the ceiling and floor, which has cut down the levels considerably but I still end up sleeping on the floor in another part of the apartment.  I wouldn't say I am getting my money's worth when I can't even sleep in my own bedroom.  Somebody is ripping us all off, namely the cell phone companies and the power companies who are invading our air space with their Death Rays.  They are making plenty of money, as we spend money trying to protect ourselves.  After a grueling week of making grounding cords, I finally had to hire someone to help me put grounding plugs and alligator clips on over 200 feet of cords I have all strewn over my apartment.  And I still have 1 room and hallway left to shield if I am going to stay here.  And those
 materials ain't cheap!

Steve,

I just went to http://stopsmartmeters.org/ to check up on the latest.
It looks like the fees are illegal.  Scroll down the page to the
article:  CPUC: PG&E Smart Meter Opt Out Fees “Suspended” Utility
Lacks Authority to Force Smart Meters or Charge Fees to Keep Analog
Meters

Can you get the other tenants in your building to opt-out, too?  I
know how hard it is to convince anyone that smart meters are
hazardous, especially if they think they will have to pay to keep the
analog or get an already installed one replaced.  I'm dealing with
that in my neighborhood, and it's most discouraging.  People who
aren't yet affected by ES just don't believe RF is harmful.  My
neighbor across the street doesn't even believe smart meter RF will go
into his house. I asked him if he could get cell phone reception
inside his house, and he said yes.  I said S.M. RF was the same--it
would go into his house from his S.M., and his neighbors' smart
meters--but he didn't believe me.  Aack!

My bed is as far away as it can get. I have a gauss meter and it doesn't pick up anything in my bedroom but definitely does in the bathroom.
I don't have a deposit or a lease because my brother in law owns the building.
The meters are everywhere so I don't think moving will help, in fact it may be worse because at least there are only 3 apartments in my building.
I have heard good and bad about the shielding so I am going to get my meter and the buildings main meter removed (my sister will help with that-I will reimburse her) and see if it helps at all and hopefully something will come up to help apartment dwellers

As for the charges, unless SDGE is told otherwise they will charge and theres nothing I can do to force them to do otherwise. Unfortunately they have all the power.

I was surprise to hear that you'd need to pay for it. Sheesh.

They can't feel it, but we can help them "hear" and "see" it by using a radiation meter. Cornet ED-7 is economical and effective enough in my experience. Turn the volume all the way up to hear it go EEEEEE.... It doesn't guarantee that they'll opt out. But it's pretty *impress*ive and makes them think about it.

Steve,
Looks like you're getting a good handle on this situation.
Have you checked out the latest stopsmartmeters.org ?
The utility co's  want the people to think "they have all the power"....they DON'T!
There's NO federal mandate for smart meters.

I have to be careful because my brother in law owns the building and he may not want me to approach the neighbors. I did put fliers in their mailboxes about the dangers and opt out.

I have a youtube site EMFWATCH that shows the levels of radiation being emitted from these smart meters for reference for those who are ES  and to show those who aren't even aware of the problem because they aren't ES yet what the difference between what the human body has been exposed to historically ( My campng and nature videos)  and what we are being exposed to by these man made devices. Pass on the site to others to learn from and maybe we ca get enough people to undo this nightmare. I'm especially concerned for those of us who are in housing complexes with banks of mart meters necessitating convincing dozens of people that this is a bad thing..

Turn the volume all the way up to hear it go EEEEEE.... It doesn't guarantee that they'll opt out. But it's pretty *impress*ive and makes them think about it.

That's interesting because they made us to believe that they is a mandate. Bizarre. We are going to keep fighting for sure

Re: Smart Meter removal

Elizabeth thode

Yes, that has commonly been the case from day one- all across the country.
They were counting on the public not knowing the truth.
did you check out the stopsmartmeters.org?
Lots of info there, another excellent site is: www.W4AR.com, click on smart meters on the left.
Here in Michigan, the utility company has had their representatives at city hall meetings and
we have them on video, answering the question: "Are smart meters mandatory?"
they answer NO. But when their trucks are going door to door in the neighborhoods,
the workers are telling the customers its the law. Unless the customer has been educated
and comes back with: "Show me the law." I will try to find an interesting eye opener of an article
which specifically comes from the public service commission and gov't entities, which states:
smart meters are to be an "opt in" thing, the customer is to request them.
It may take me a bit to find this article, but it is a legal document.

I'll try but it's difficult to convince people who don't feel it

That is very useful information. We have an organization here is SoCal that is fighting the meters and using this info.
Thanks,
Steve
