Does anyone have an opinion on using silicon kitchen utensils/bakeware etc.
This material seems to be taking over in the kitchen department. Inert? Toxic? OK to use? Thank you in advance to all who comment. vsp [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
Hi, Victoria,
My doctors told me to avoid silicone, and also non-stick cookware. I don't know how toxic silicone really is, but since I have blood-brain barrier damage, mast cell issues, and MCS, I don't like to take chances. I own a spatula which is silicone--I very rarely use it and only when nothing else works for the job at hand. I could no longer find a rubber spatula! Something which bothers me much more, tho, are the antibacterial items which are so ubiquitous now. I am not sure that they are all the same chemical, but many are made from "Micro-ban", which is said to break down into dioxins over time. No matter over time, I react to it now! But it is scary when one considers it is now on or in counter tops, tubs, toilets, sinks, some fridges, much of the plastic ware, dish drainers, garbage cans, socks, some underwear, et5c etc, etc.... Won't it be peachy when all this stuff hits the landfills? According to Dr. Gupta (our last Surgeon General, if I am not mistaken), one drop of dioxin can poison 12 Olympic size swimming pools. You just gotta wonder what this rush to destroy Earth is all about. [It appears to be over sheer greed and money.] We inherited Earth from our ancestors who took fairly good care of it up till about 150 years ago. Nowadays, manufacturers care not at all about what their toxic wastes are going to unleash. Sorry, I am beginning to vent. ;) This is a very emotional issue for me. For any who think this subject is off-topic, this is actually one of the reasons so many of us ARE ES! We do not have to detox just metals, but all the other crap floating around out there which ends up in our bodies, besides. Thanks for your "rant". I add my voice to it whole-heartedly! I
think a lot of this stuff is nano-tech, too, and that is completely untested as to what it will do to the human body. They do know it intensifies the potency, but not to what specific degree. It's downright scary. I was going to replace my dish drainer but discovered the new ones are anti-bacterial. I was thinking "Salvation Army", but the old and new Rubbermaid ones look the same, so I could unknowingly pick up an anti- bacterial one, even it is second-hand. Frankly, I am sooooo tired of having to look at everything in my life through the lens of "What hazardous chemical or technology is in THIS?", instead of "Do I like it/want it, or not?" I'm not LIVING my life; I'm playing defense all the time--just trying to survive. It's sad...AND infuriating! Oh how true! That is how I look at things as well. "Is it toxic?" "What's in it?" It's the "new game of life!" To go the extra extra mile to find food WITHOUT gmo's/pesticides/ chemicals/ect....to pay MORE for stuff without the toxic ingredients, -when actually, we should be paying LESS-it takes money to buy all those extra toxic add ins. Then we pay to have silver/mercury fillings taken OUT of our bodies...while regular insurance paid the full price to have these nasties permanently installed in our mouths! And the list goes on and on. I tell people: you have to decide whose side you're on... theirs that want to poison you- or your side, your desire to be healthy. Hi, Esther,
Thanks so much for your understanding. I am so tired of talking to "stumps" about this issue. ;) I thought I could go to Goodwill, too, to buy things. However, it is now their policy to pesticide everything which they receive. I went into their store, began to look at vcrs, and every one which I touched "bit" me! The one great thing about having mast cell proliferation is I react to touching anything which is not safe. The skin on my finger pads (or any skin the item touches) burns. This is, of course, a double edged sword; however,it is great on the protection end. lol I don't have to worry whether a food or item has gluten, pesticides, antibacterials..... I know it has something my body doesn't like justby whether my finger pads burn. I try to look at it from the cave-man perspective..... Everything is uncharted territory, I have to keep sharp and alert, and willing to be very keen at problem solving. It is either me or the environment, which will win; me, I hope. lol But it is an on-going battle. Bless you, Esther, Diane ________________________________ From: Esther LeSieur <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2011 4:25 AM Subject: Re: [eSens] Silicon in the Kitchen Thanks for your "rant".
