Hi all,
In the near future I'll be riding a bike from place to place twice a week or so, 10 kilometers. It's a metal framed mountain bike (what, you think I can afford a carbon framed one?). Since we don't like sleeping on spring coil mattresses, the thought crossed my mind - what about riding a bike? When I'm walking (I don't drive), I try to be on the side of the road without power-lines. If I'm on a metal framed bike, should I be worried about "body voltage" from any power lines nearby being redistributed by the frame of the bike? What about whatever RF there might be around? And - can anything be done? What about attaching a grounding cord that literally goes, uh, to the ground, from the bike frame? Or am I just being uber-over-cautious? Thoughts and suggestions are very much appreciated. Best, R. |

PAUL UK Replies - Hi R, I ride a metal mountain bike frequently and boy am I sensitive to EMR ! But the Bike is no problem, in fact I would positively encourage you to get on one and move around get fit etc..there may well be some impact probably due to similar circumstances as walking ie no protection if near masts etc, but the benefits outway the possible micro effects here I would say , your body is elevated over the large proportion of the metal frame and you will be insulated by rubber seat and handlebar grips, no electronics etc... I think you are better off on the move so that Emr is distributed around body than sitting still in one place where you can geta concentrated effect occur on any one part of the body, such as your torso and head when at a computer so get on your bike and where the T shirt that say EMF-OFF ! pAUL uK [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
Hi Paul, cheers. Yeah, it's out in the countryside anyway, there's a
bit of RF here and there perhaps, but I guess it's better than walking for a longer time through it, too, huh? And the exercise ought to do me good.
