Hey Tim or others,
If you are thinking of moving to Green Bank, are you aware the NSF is trying to shut the telescope down? If they do so, what a huge waste, and no more radio quiet zone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGcFZvoubXU On August 16, 2012, A committee appointed by the National Science Foundation (NSF) recommended that the Green Bank Telescope be fully divested from its inventory by 2017. Thanks. I signed the petition for both reasons--waste and no more
radio quiet zone. Esther On Apr 20, 2013, at 12:04 PM, H RS wrote: > Hey Tim or others, > > If you are thinking of moving to Green Bank, are you aware the NSF > is trying to shut the telescope down? Hi Renee,
Yes, thanks... I came across this too recently... There are petitions to try to keep it open. There's another military telescope in the Quiet Zone I believe, but it leads to be seen if the government rescinds the protection. There's a lot of fracking going on in WV, PA, and such. The ground water contamination concerns me more than the RF actually, so I kinda decided not to look into that area to settle. Pocahontas county where Greenbanks resides has an effort to keep the oil companies out of the county, but that's not a battle I want to take on at this point. I hope to find land with natural RF protection and no cell coverage (such as a valley surrounded by hills) and then build further protection into the buildings. My concern is that a tower could be erected later... I'm not sure about BLM or National Forest regulations there, so if that offered extra protection from towers, adjacent land could be ideal. I'm still looking at options, trying to figure out what will be best for long term... Hey, I just was signing this petition, hit sign and it came up http 404 not found!
I clicked back, and it had reset the collected and needed signatures to saying no one had signed it. I hit send again, and the same error again! Then it showed signatures again, but still same error, not accepting new sigs. ~ Snoshoe --- In [hidden email], H RS <iamhamsa@...> wrote: > > Hey Tim or others, > > If you are thinking of moving to Green Bank, are you aware the NSF is trying to shut the telescope down?
