I just now saw your question about the effect of iron ore deposits.
What comes to mind first is that iron ore in the ground is a terrific pathway
for ground current returning to a substation, and it is mostly the
higher-frequency, health-damaging current that does return via the ground.
You'd have to meter to know for sure, but this is a pretty good bet.
