Re: Is ES an allergy? - Hair of the dog

Ian Kemp
"Hair of the dog" is an interesting term referring to withdrawal from
allergies. If you are allergic to something, and the stimulus is taken
away, you can suffer something like withdrawal symptoms or a hangover
effect. Then after some days you feel better. This delayed action effect or
"adaptation" is one reason why intolerance-type slow-reaction allergies
(unlike the instant-reaction acute allergy) are so difficult to diagnose.

Breakspear Hospital describe a "bipolar" situation where the body constantly
strains to react to the allergen, and gradually becomes exhausted. The imune
system then weakens and one becomes prey to all sorts of other things; MCS,
ES, etc. This is what seems, in retrospect, to have happened with Sue.

The "hair of the dog" phrase in common (UK) parlance refers to taking a bit
of alcohol the morning after a heavy drinking session to ease a severe
hangover! Basically, you are reducing the "withdrawal" or "bipolar low"
effect.

Ian

I don't know very much about the internals of network protocols as that has
not been required for the programming I do.

OK so what is the "hair of the dog that bit me?"

Thanks for sharing what you have tried in that arena.
