Re: Canada and smart meters

Joyce Soos
I am new here. I have had mcs and es for twenty years. I am supposed to get a smart meter put on my house sometime next year here in southern california. I am against this but my husband and children think that I will be fine. I cannot watch any type of tv whether lcd or led or the usual without getting a headache. Once it is unplugged, the headache goes away. I am hoping to get some info sent to our local mayor about the dangers of these meters. Unfortunately even my neighbor doesn't think that these meters are a problem. I am mostly housebound to avoid fabric softeners, perfumes, etc. I do not own a cell phone as those give me headaches but my family have theirs.
Now I can handle being on this computer for about two hours with a cell phone charging about 3 to 4 feet from me but not sure how I will react with a smart meter. I figure it will be about 6 plus feet from my head in my bedroom. I always react with headaches on just about anything. If it is strong enough, I leave the room or area, and I am fine. If these meters do this to me, I will be living on the streets! No support whatever from my family. They want to hook up an LED tv again so they can use a bigger screen. We tried it last year, and within ten minutes, I got my headache. I told them to turn it off and unplug it. I can still sense it even while plugged in and not on. My family wants me to get used to it! Sorry for this long post. I am 56, female, and tired of it all.

Joyce,
Maybe you could show your family the following link.

There are no caves around here as I live in a desert, high desert over 2,000 feet above sea level. Still I am trying to take care of the smart meters by myself. I know that I will be home when they try to install it as everyone else is at work or school. I am hoping that I do not freak out!

Hi Joyce,

Here is a flyer I've tried to distribute in my neighborhood (San
Francisco Bay Area).  I'm sending it because of the websites listed at
the bottom.  StopSmartMeters.org is excellent, and has a wide variety
of information.  There are other dangers from smart meters beside the
health consequences--invasion of privacy, increased bills from the
utility because of Time of Use pricing, and tiered pricing, hacking,
etc.   Perhaps your husband might be more convinced if there's a
negative impact to your finances?  Also, they've been known to start
house fires, and have "fried" electronics and appliances.

These YouTube videos are excellent.  When you hear the sounds from the
meter measuring the smart meter emissions, it makes it hard to deny
that they are "safe".

Hi, Joyce,

I feel for you, dear.  Unfortunately our families are not always on the same page with us.  It took my husband and son a while to figure ES out, but they started paying attention when I started predicting the future.  ;)  [I would be able to predict when a cell tower was over the next hill, that people had cell phones charging in such a room which was located in such a direction, real estate we looked at had old ungrounded wiring without looking at the wiring....  Then I began predicting when *they* would have tinnitus.]  I had the added ?benefit? of having been just short of completely bed-bound for over a decade.  I was recovering and it behooved them to not have me go there again.

You can stand to be 3 or 4 feet from a charging cell phone while on a computer?!?  Wow, you are good!  I couldn't be in the same house with a charging cell phone at all for a few years.  I can imagine what you feel like.

If you can find a doctor who will write you a letter stating you have a medical condition, you can present that to your utility company and I think you will easily be able to dodge the smart meter being put on your house.  You can also threaten to sue, due to your personal freedoms being trampled, but your family would likely need to be on board for that.  [But you might start mentioning how smart meters will be used to tell how much water, electric, and gas you use, so it can be *controlled* in the future.  This is how they are going to figure how to cut down on resources in the future to get around peak use times--they will tell you *when* you can use your water and power.  They will also be able to tell when people are home, on vacation, took a bath, went to the toilet....]

I do have a smart meter on my water line.  It was put in before I was aware what my rights were.  But, even still, I was able to get them to put it in a hole in the ground out by the road.  It doesn't bother me there, until I get about 12 feet from it.  If you do this, be sure they also ground the meter or piping and you run non metal piping into your house.  You can have non metal pipe outside your house for both water and gas; this will work for both utility meters.  If you live in a condo or apartment, this will not be an option for you, however.  If you choose this option, you should ask me for a more in depth explanation of the grounding/ plastic piping, as it will need to be done right.  I can explain more about that.

Another option might be to choose another room to sleep in or have the meters moved to another location.  We also did this.  It involved more expense, however, when you consider how much we were spending for medical testing, etc during the years I was bed-bound, it was a bargain.  We had our electric meter set up on a telephone pole at the end of our driveway, out by the street.  We had to pay for the pole and the extra cable to get it to our electric panel.  (Our electric meter is not yet a smart meter, but the electric company recently was bought by another company, so I may have to deal with that yet).  I also moved the room I slept in to a room that was more internal and protected, instead of an end bedroom.

Another possible help would be to put emf shielding fabric behind your bed on the wall where the meters are located.  You can easily make very nice decorative curtains but the emf fabric is fairly expensive.  Do you have a mattress without springs or metal of any kind?  You will definitely need that--an all foam or air mattress works best.  All of this is ca-ching, ca-ching to your wallet.  But you have time to make changes slowly if you start now.  A non metal bed frame and mattress is a great place to start.  The fabric curtains also will shield outside frequencies of all kinds, so that is perhaps a good investment regardless of what happens with your meters.

There exists a site which was passed around about 3 months ago, which shows how you can put locks on your meters so that they can not be changed without your presence.  I do not have the site address, but I am sure someone here does, or it could be found by reading the archives.

Good luck; welcome to the forum,
Diane

Lock up your meter!

Elizabeth thode

Go to www.stopsmartmeters.org and you will find some pictures of how people locked up their analog meters.
I had a friend help me build a box over mine, looks like a giant shadow box, with plexiglass window, so the meter reader
can still read my meter. It is a hinged box with a padlock on it.

Re: Lock up your meter!

emraware
I would go for the lock.  Shielding may be tough for something that strong.  Get some encouragement from stopsmartmeters.org to stay strong even when you're bullied into it.

You'll probably need to persuade your neighbors too.  Print out some flyers.  Tell them that 47 california local governments demand a halt to this program.
