RF shielding

alinepapille
I'm also looking into RF shielding - for here and for my trip to the UK. I have a silver mesh camisole but when I wrap my electrosmog detector in it completely I only see a 10% reduction in the reading.

I'm very disappointed to see this. Is there something I'm missing? I tried my noisy meter wrapped in the camisole in front of the microwave and it didn't block it much either.

Is the argan mesh a more effective material?

Thanks!
Aline

Hi Arline,

Yes, you are missing a few important points.

1-
Remember the rabbit ear antennas we used to have on TVs? Remember what
happened when you touched them? The reception improved. Your body became an
extension of the antenna.

By placing the shielding fabric right up against the meter antenna, you can
create the same effect. The fabric becomes an extension of the meter's
antenna. If you use a reasonable spacer, say 2 inches or so, you should see
a nice shielding effect. Remember to ground the fabric, and make a nice
complete enclosure.

2-
A microwave oven fills the room with microwaves, they bounce all over. A
small shield on one side of the meter will offer some improvement, but the
meter still "sees" radiation from the non-shielded sides. Here again, use an
enclosure shape with spacing, and make sure the shield is grounded.

Hi Emil,

Thanks - that throws some light on the subject.
