Hi Thomas
Something else occurred to me that i meant to ask you and forgot - was just wondering where you came across the info about the Eco button on the Tecnhicolour 582n - it's just i have been surfing looking for information about the 582n and I can't find any reference to that feature - even the user set up guide provided by the manufacturer just gives different set up instructions for a wired and a wireless application and there is nothing about this feature in that guide - just wanted to be sure since am thinking of ordering a broadband package [and having to sign up to a fixed term contract] which uses this router and wanted to be sure that I could use this router before signing up to the contract. Thanks steph ________________________________ From: frequencyhurtz <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Sent: Friday, 11 January 2013, 12:04 Subject: [eSens] Re: WIRELESS BROADBAND ROUTER - ebay link for steph. Yes Steph. It will turn off the wireless and become a wired router. The only possible down side to this is if you turn off the power to the modem and then turn it back on it may default to being back on again, and so you have to press the button again. Just something to be aware of. Thomas --- In [hidden email], Stephanie Smith wrote: > > Hi Thomas > > Many thanks for this. So just so I am 100% clear, this hardware button would enable me to disable the wireless access point and then use the router as a wired router from that point onwards - is that what this means? > > Thanks > Steph > > > ________________________________ > From: frequencyhurtz > To: [hidden email] > Sent: Tuesday, 8 January 2013, 11:13 > Subject: [eSens] Re: WIRELESS BROADBAND ROUTER - ebay link for steph. > > > Â > The modem in question you were discussing eairler (Technicolor 582n) has a button marked ECO which can turn the wireless on and off without having to go into the settings. > > A Quote from the manufacture > > "eco > Technicolor offers its customers environmentally friendly products. In addition to carefully selected plastics and packaging to minimize the ecological footprint, the TG582n benefits from a unique combination of hardware and software features that reduce power consumption substantially. For instance, a button allows the user to disable/enable the wireless access point when its function is not required." > > Most modems nowadays you can also reduce the power level of the wireless to bring it down to 20% so rather than blast your neighbours you can reduce the range and keep it within the house. I do this to decrease the power levels within the house. So rather than full blown fried it's set to 20% fried. > > Thomas > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Hi Steph
This modem is supplied to Internet providers and it is bit of an issue as no manual is provided from the manufacturer. It is expected that the Internet retailers put their own branding information on it and also write instructions for the end user on how to use it. This is the brochure link which has the small bit of info about eco. http://www.technicolor.com/uploads/associated_materials/ds_technicolor_tg582n.pdf Most manufactures do this ECO sort of thing to reduce power consumption not reduce EMF radiation so that is something to look for when buying. Less power will typically mean less radiation. This is not always the case tho. I have an Eco cordless phone which does not transmit until it rings (in use) the downside is if you miss the call it displays as such on the screen and while it is in this mode the wireless is on and transmitting. As I am not sensitive it is as not as big an issue, but for others it will be. steph, was thinking why don't you just go with ISP talk/talk, at least that way you know the 99p modem on ebay will definitelywork, and I can help you with the setup if need be.
