Oxalates

Catherine
I first heard about the potential dangers of oxalates about 18 months ago, but I ignored the warnings.  I couldn’t believe that vegetables, such as spinach, Swiss chard and chicory, which I thought were healthy, could possibly do me any harm.  I also saw a video on Youtube which said that eating lots of oxalates isn’t a problem if you’re on a paleo keto diet – I now know that this is rubbish!

I started to take the issue of oxalates seriously when I read Dr Neil Nathan’s book “The Sensitive Patient’s Healing Guide” which has an excellent chapter on oxalates.  I reduced my consumption of spinach by 50% and, within a couple of weeks, I was experiencing unpleasant detox symptoms which I realised were caused by “oxalate dumping” – the body releasing stored oxalates. So I increased my consumption of spinach again and I’m now reducing my oxalate consumption very slowly – approx. 5% per week. I’m still experiencing detox symptoms, but they’re at a manageable level.

It’s going to take me about 5 months to get my oxalate consumption down to a safe level.  After that, I’ll still have oxalates stored in my body, which could take years to excrete.  I’ve been consuming high levels of oxalates for over 20 years now and I have a plethora of health problems.  Whilst I don’t think oxalates are the only cause of my problems – I also have mercury toxicity and emotional stress,  I do think they’ve  been a significant factor.  Hopefully, I’ll start to see some improvements in my health soon.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who's had experience with oxalate toxicity.

Re: Oxalates

Fog Top
Catherine, are you able to supply a link to oxalates being dangerous?

My husband is prone to developing kidney stones, and we have heard that consuming foods high in oxalates could be contributing to this and spinach was high on the list.

Thanks for posting!

Hi

There's a lot of information on the internet about oxalates being dangerous, but I don't know how reliable it is.  I got my information from Dr Neil Nathan's book "The Sensitive Patients Healing Guide" which is available from Amazon.
