Just thought i'd mention that i've found that this herb has a
remarkable effect on the feeling of heating i get in my legs and body generally at night. It is a herbal anti-inflammatory. It is what aspirin was derived from apparently, but in the herb the salicylates only affect the inflamed tissues rather than the whole body, as with aspirin. I was interested that it works simply because it might provide some insight into whats happening in my body: inflammation! I guess that doesn't get me much further. The other problem is that despite the fact that i've read that its supposed to be a gentle tonic for gut problems, ulcers, etc, i haveactually found that it seems to irritate my stomach, which is most annoying because it really is very effective especailly when combined with a bit of passiflora (for the mind). i used to use skullcap but my body started to react to it, making my restless legs worse. Going back to meadowsweet, it does say that some people are intolerant of salicylates, perhaps i'm one of them. Better than taking valium though I suppose which is what i had to do every so often when the heating and restless legs deprived me of sleep for consecutive nights. |
Thought i should update this in case anyone is interested because a
bit of confusion has set in regarding the herb. I stumbled upon it almost by accident. I had the remainder of a bag of it from a few years ago, which as i say was excellent. I got in some new Meadowsweet and not only does it look different, its action actually seems to aggravate my condition. So i'm looking into it. What may be the reason is that the old bag of herb contained the ROOT of the herb, as it is very fine, resembles ground liquorice root. But generally the stalks and flowers of the plant are used, the root is hard to get hold of. I'll let you all know when i get to the bottom of this! jane --- In [hidden email], "asurisuk" <asurisuk@...> wrote: > > Just thought i'd mention that i've found that this herb has a > remarkable effect on the feeling of heating i get in my legs and body > generally at night.
