Kindle Paperwhite. ebook reader

Hawk
I really want a Kindle and the Paperwhite model looks like the best.
Does anyone have experience using it?

It does have wifi, which can be switched off..
what I am worried about is the backlight which would be so nice to have.
I am sensitive to LED headlights. but this is not a strong light.
anyways I think these devices emit less emf than a computer. nice to download text and read it on ebook device than on the computer.

While writing this post i did some more research.. this is what i found:
from amazon discussion forum.

It's the same kind of light (both LED lights), **but** unlike the ipad it's not shining directly into your eyes. Backlit screens are lit from behind the screen, with the light shining through what you're reading, so the lighting is aimed directly into your eyes. The PW has small LED lights set very discreetly between the screen and the bezel (the surrounding bit) and shining across the top of the screen down onto it, so the lighting is pointing *away* from your eyes.

If you use (at any time) an LED nightlight for reading a paper book, that would give you the best parallel to the PW's lights on your sleep pattern.

It has to do with melatonin levels being effected by overexposure to wavelengths similar to natural sunlight. This disrupts the body's natural circadian rhythms, established over thousands of years via exposure to the Earths natural day/night schedule:

http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletters/Harvard_Health_Letter/2012/May/blue-light-has-a-dark-side/

"While light of any kind can suppress the secretion of melatonin, blue light does so more powerfully. Harvard researchers and their colleagues conducted an experiment comparing the effects of 6.5 hours of exposure to blue light to exposure to green light of comparable brightness. The blue light suppressed melatonin for about twice as long as the green light and shifted circadian rhythms by twice as much (3 hours vs. 1.5 hours)."

any input appriciated :)

Returned my Kobo e eader today. To much pulsing. Scanned it with my radio and was surprised. Screaming with noise. The puls intervals was interesting. Very un-rhytmic.
Guess i have to do without.

peace to you all. Sufferer of silent sound.

The one Kindle I ever tried was also bad, even with the wireless functionality disabled.  It's funny, because you'd think that an e-reader would be more tolerable than a laptop computer, but that's not necessarily the case...

I'm sorry that you're feeling deprived, Hawk, but hard-copy books will treat your eyes and body so much better than an electronic reader.

Would you mind explaining what you mean when you say that you're a "sufferer of silent sound"?

Marc. Yes, agree. So i had to try one.

fog top: silent sound. It is all frequencies right, sound and emf. But emf/microwave is outside the ears requency range, so it can't be heard.  It is all sound still. That is why i use my am radio to convert the frequencies into hearable sound.
noise in the background can be stressful. Depending on the type of noise(frequency). A fan, traffic, machinery etc.
The exactly same with silent sound. See?

Frequency creates form, youtube cymatics.  "Physical matter" all came out of a big bang they say right
This is just my perspective.
i did not mean to say you are a sufferer just because i sometimes feel like one. Been emf sensitive my whole life and it has been very tough.
 Peace to all

Hawk - thanks for explaining the "silent" sound.  I'm so sorry that you've been suffering from this your whole life!  I became a sufferer of it three years ago when our electric provider began using power line communication (PLC, B-PLC broadband over power line) for their new digital smart meters.

I began to hear a 24/7 low frequency hum plus higher pitches which feel like waves going through my head creating pressure changes in my ear/head - the very same thing that I get when standing near a running furnace or high energy electrical appliance.  I've spoken with numerous people who began suffering the same "silent" sound syndrome after PLC came to town.  Some of those people are ES; some are not.  My husband does not hear it, yet to me the sound is usually screaming in my house.

When I go to remote areas far from power lines the sounds diminish greatly.  I haven't been able to stay away long enough to see if it will ever totally go away, but I  know of a man who was affected but after spending a year in a state where PLC isn't used he now says that the head noises are gone.

Power line communication does it's communicating by coupling pulsed RF onto the power lines.  It radiates RF energy from unshielded power lines, house wiring, and underground cables.  It penetrates 3-feet into the earth and the signals can travel in the air for about a mile from the nearest power line.  It's massive dirty electricity which pollutes the whole city where it's installed not only along the roads by the lines but also right in our homes from the electrical wiring in the walls in the form of massive dirty electricity.
