Hello all,
I have been suffering with EHS and MCS for some time now; and have recently set up a computer with the hope it will restore some independence to my life and provide me with a window to the world. However, though I have sort to create a very low EMF setup, I find I am having constant difficulty using it. Can anybody shed light on the mechanisms by which a computer is potentially affecting to an EHS sufferer, or perhaps find a possible hole in my setup? My setup is thus: An LED monitor, only months old. A small desktop tower (with limited/reduced capacity) and a wired keyboard and mouse. No component measures anything (nothing greater than 0.02m/V) on my EMF detector, EMFields Acoustimeter. http://www.emfields-solutions.com/detectors/acoustimeter.asp Symptoms occur almost instantaneously and grow worse with longer usage. These are principally cognitive symptoms, brain fog, scattered, forgetfulness, stress, headaches and pains, loss of concentration and the like, often with some arrhythmia. I also tend to experience a burning sensation in the mouse hand and aching wrist (I have a ball mouse on order!). Could it be that my meter is missing some crucial frequency or type? Possibly glare from the screen? I feel quite ignorant about all this, and also I see the extraordinary lengths some on the internet have gone to with their setups. Any advise you can provide would be welcomed. Many thanks, Luke |

Yes, there are a wide range of approaches in how to deal with this. My approach has been
to do a trial & error on all components & settings & setup, so I'm using off-the-shelf stuff that looks completely normal, but is much more tolerable than most computing equipment. It seems like people can react to almost all aspects of a computer setup -- the monitor, the computer, the hard drive, the internet connection, the video cable, the keyboard, the mouse, etc. For example, I've purchased all kinds of computer mice over the years, but the one I continue to use is a Microsoft ball mouse from the late 1990s (PS/2 connection, not USB). And I've tried all sorts of video connections between a PC and monitor, but continue to use an analog (VGA, D-SUB) connection. And I'm pretty much limited to 1366 x 768 resolution (that would be the resolution that the PC is sending to the monitor, as it doesn't seem to affect me to have a monitor that can support a higher resolution). And of course, people tend to use ethernet for internet instead of wi-fi, although I find some forms of wired internet to be worse than others. So I'm currently using cable internet instead of DSL. Then to top it all off, I've experimented with EMF protection devices that make the whole setup even more tolerable. So I can basically be on the computer all day without symptoms, when originally I think I could stand it for about 5 minutes at a time. Marc |

Well young skywalker, you have a scanner for wireless radiation only.
There are other frequencies in different ranges that need different scanners to detect them. Try a radio for starters, it opens up the universe. There are indeed many ways to victory, swapping equipement is the more popular approach. Depending on your sensitivity the road ahead could be costly and long. You must not despair, there are allies to be found to help you. |

Hey Luke here are a few more factors to look out for;
-Make sure your mains outlet is wired correctly with a receptacle tester (Some receptacles have a fake ground, some have phase inversion but both sill might work under certain circumstances) Be careful! Best to always cut the breaker b4 looking inside) -Use a program like f.lux to filter excessive blue light (too much blue light could affect your sleep and I find bad sleep amplifies my symptoms/reactions) -Spend some time with your comp while it is unplugged from the net and see if this makes any difference. I too react from live Ethernet cables. Some have found using a shielded Ethernet cable (Cat7) and a grounded router has made difference. -I also have issues with my mouse. Im thinking this is due to dirty electricity, if possible try to cut out all the bad offenders while you are working at the comp. Turn off CFL/LED/Florescent lights, Plasma TVs, your fridge if possible, anything with a motor, unplug appliances / chargers/ AC to DC "wall warts". even your furnace HVAC can contribute. Basically you need to at least test this excessively unplugged scenario once so you can try to encourage the most dramatic reduction of DE possible. -I use a plastic keyboard (not aluminum) and I've added a ferrite bead to my mouse cable to try to cut back a bit of the high frequency crap coming down the mains/from the comp/from the Ethernet. This helps a bit but is by no means the answer. (Prob best bet is to try PS/2 ball mouse) (I haven't yet) -Some have issues with intel processors... -keep the computer as far away from you as possible, experiment with USB extension cables (15 ft) for both your keyboard and mouse along with an extension for your monitor. -Never use any charging cables (or any cables for that matter) that are frayed/damaged. -Make sure your power cables are not touching your USB/monitor cables and practice good cable management (velcro ties keep thing neat and separated) The ultimate test would be a (rechargeable) battery powered computer setup, retrofitted to run on DC and completely "off the grid" with fiber-optic internet access. I don't know if this would be the answer but at least it would allow us to narrow down the search. Hope this helps man, Cheers, Don |
Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I shall work my way through the lot bit by bit as I have the energy, time and resource.
To Merializer, very amusing. I have been neglectful of popular culture during this fall into EHS but I appreciate the timeliness of the reference. On the subject of your post, could you or perhaps another Jedi Master point me in the direction of how to make/convert/obtain an AM radio for use in measuring EMFs and proper usage (radios have caused me some bother in the past)? Thanks all again, Luke |

Watts is a measure of what energy is available to make radiations. If its 240vAC you will get a full electric field if your meter works correctly. They all do this if they use 240v. You will get none if it is 12vDC and you have a clean power supply IE linear mag amp.
The watts turn into AM radio waves and come out of the screen which make me ill. The less watts the less radio waves the less illness. Simples! Thats why I ask you please do you know of a low wattage big screen? I like big cos I can sit farther away. If you are in a live electric field it will try to earth through you. If you are in AM fields it will try to earth through you. The positive and negative charges in the waves will use your biology to cancel each other out. |
No i don't know any good TV's.
Didn't have time yet to research about this. it would be great if someone could make a website were we can vote on tested laptops, TV's etc. Some sort of database with for example flag votes: very good, ok, bad, very bad now the information is all over the place and searching for it and asking someone here or on facebook is an unorganized mess. Some will say it all depends on personal feeling and EHS variety, but it still would be helpful. |
Plop, on the mention of a screen - would using a projector be a solution? This may negate the problem of bigger the screen, bigger the wattage, if that is the case. Could it not also solve some of the common issues with screens, i.e. glare, scanning process, looking at source of EMF and source of blue light?
Has anybody found any substantial benefit from using a projector rather than a monitor? Surely it offers more shielding options and the possibility to put distance between you and the appliance. |

I know in my workplace, I react to the projectors in the conference rooms. An added problem with projectors is that they are generally closer to you than the screen is.
That said, there is someone on one of the Facebook groups that said a small projector worked better for him than any monitor he tried. Marc |

Use an earthing mat under the key board and or wireless keyboard and mouse are good.

I recently got a new PC for a different purpose than my usual and I got the same issues. I was setting it up yesterday for a long time not even seriously putting it under any heavy load and I felt horrible all day and made my day at work more of a mess than I needed it to be and shot my CS through the roof there. So I'm laying off it until I get my tower protector I ordered, not risking my job because of it. The one I built myself in a corsair carbide case is far easier on me so the build of the case itself can make a huge difference. If my current case was like this cheap new one I have here, feeling how a PC tower radiates with nothing in its way I think I would be in the hospital if I used it daily. The parts between both aren't too different internally so it's how you shield it. I use a screen radiation protector and with VGA it works wonders but HDMI though it's better still cuts through a lot and makes me ill. I also only use wired connections.
I decided to actually buy a tower protector because with my new PC it's horrible, I bought the non-cage one from less-emf because what works best would most likely be something that completely blankets it out. Hope it comes in soon cause I wanted to use my new pc so bad |

I have a projector, 12vDC and its not very usable. No where near as good as my LG monitor which is now old and on its way out. The fact that it is so good shows they can be made, but the problem is they don't make low watt ones any more or do not seem to. Why? We need to tell them there is a demand. I have written to them explaining my opinion many times but its like it just goes into the bin!
We need a petition to ask for a low radiation monitor from LG again. 22" and 10w. E-ink seems a way forwards but the price is stupid. I don't know what the FRIs are like cos I cant test one but the wattages are pretty similar. My computer produces no radiations at all, its a Chinese Slim Factor based on mobile phone technology, with a painted (home made EMR proof graphite) box around it. Its fast and tiny and uses 10w. The mouse and keyboard are still a problem. I have foiled and painted them too and they bother me much less now. Lots of ferrite chokes. |

I have sometimes "stocked up" on older electronics that I tolerate, because I know the newer models are worse. > E-ink seems a way forwards but the price is stupid. I thought e-ink looked promising, but the first & only Kindle I bought was intolerable. > The mouse and keyboard are still a problem. No problem with those. :-) Marc |
Ok so the tower shield works, it's not perfect and if you have a huge tower it's not gonna vertically cover the entire way down but it at least helps enough to be able to use the thing a bit after tweaking it to make it put out as little power as it can resource wise. I was actually think of getting some of that shield for screens for under it and over the side panels because it's so good at what it does for my monitor. I also didn't realize how bad something like a mouse and keyboard could get until I happened to use the one it came with that's has all these lights on it and was a little bigger. Couldn't tolerate it, felt it all through my hand. Older parts are the way to go. But I have to say some LCD old PC flat screens are absolutely horrid. I have a smaller square Dell one in my closet though that's just fine. Actually thinking of going back to it because my monitor is a little too wide for me and even though it looks nice other the stretching can be a bit ridiculous.

What sort of mouse is it? Have you tried a rollerball? What sort of keyboard? Mine are racid on an AM radio. All of them. I foil tape the but it does not do much. Then I paint them but still not much better.
I have permanent alerts on eBay for monitors but 12vDc is not listed and nor is watts. Have you tried medical monitors? They are very low radiations as doctors wont let them selves be exposed to RFI shite as they do know what it does to health! Bleeding expensive though. Watts is a large part of the key to this. We could be saving the planet too. Watts is the key to it all. Save energy. Save health. Save the climate future. |

The mouse I use is a Microsoft PS/2 ball mouse ("Intellimouse PS/2 Compatible"). The keyboard I use at home is an IBM Model M Space Saving Keyboard (which sells for outrageous prices on eBay, due to it's mechanical keyswitches). The keyboard I use at work is an IBM Space Saver II keyboard (far less collectible).
I've tried about 20 other mice and found them all less desirable (due to ES or ergonomics) than my 1990s mouse. I seem to be less sensitive to keyboards. But I've done a lot of heavy metal detox over the years, so I'm far less sensitive now than I used to be. I don't believe I've tried any medical monitors. I tried a hospital room TV set once, but rejected it due to poor picture quality (and it was probably hard to tolerate too, can't remember) Marc |

I hate the old roller balls cos they got so dirty. I can definitely feel my mouses charge. I cannot believe how much radio shite comes out of all of the modern ones. Why?
I have a wired iPazzPort mini keyboard and touch pad which uses almost no watts and makes less fuzz than a mouse but you cant buy them any more. My USB amp meters cannot measure any of these. Input devices are my only measurable exposure now and I dream of the day they are cleaner. Again we are up against a non linear function of modulated radio waves creating messages rather than imparting energy I think. Thanks for your details. I will keep buying and trying. I never understand why no manufacturer sees a market in clean products. It must be huge. Especially amongst hippy women. The Tco should be approached with this idea. Tco is the law in the EU. |

I seem to recall that some company in Europe recently advertised an EMF-free keyboard, but then someone on an ES Facebook group tried it, and it was intolerable to them. So obviously the company's standards weren't as strict as ours.
But yes, the old ball mouse does get dirty and needs to be cleaned, but I see that as a minor issue, compared to the symptom-free usage. Marc |
