I've heard of smart meters causing fires but here is a citywide event:

It's based on a lie.

Well, to be fair, that was a nasty power surge, which probably fried the electronics within everyone's
houses as well, and possibly all of their interior wiring will need to be replaced.  This was essentially
like a lightning strike, with thousands of volts coming into people's houses.  So of course the smart
meters were fried.
