High readings. How to determine if I'm sensitive? Cost-effective shielding?

Aragorn
Hi all. First post. Please bear with me.

I've been struggling with extreme fatigue, low thyroid, low androgen and other mysterious health issues for over 12 years. Tried many alternative theories (mercury, diets, cleansing etc etc) not to mention orthodox doctors. Noone has a clue, and none of the remedies/medications that I've tried even helped.

I live on the 6th (top) floor in an apartment building in Brooklyn, NY, moved there around 15 years ago. I've always had a concern about cell towers in nearby buildings, but never new how to approach measuring and study all that. I never noticed any obvious sensitivity to EMF. I'm of lower side of income... My wife died of breast cancer 3 years ago.

Recently I purchased a used Acoustimeter AM-10 and it showed 10,000-15,000 uW/m2 average, and over 6V (100,000 uW/m2, overloading) peak. Even turning my phone and wifi off makes no difference because the background signal is so strong...

Thinking that my AM-10 might be way off, I brought it to work where it showed nearly zero in a shielded aluminum box, so it seems working fine.

My EMF measures 0.6V when I'm on my bed, measured against an outlet ground.

Trying to research this whole thing... A cheapest conductive canopy from Aliexpress with 40-45 dB attenuation will cost me at least $1,000. It seems like non-conductive would not provide adequate attenuation at these levels. All tents I've seen are of medium attenuation fabric too, and seem inconvenient to sleep in...

So, is there a way to see if the EMF even the culprit in my health struggle without shelling off $1,000 for a canopy?  I know my symptoms match EMF poisoning, but they also match all million other causes which proven not to be the cause. Hopefully experienced people like you can give valuable advices here.

Is there EMF level that will affect anyone, even a non-sensitive person? How far am I from that level?

Thanks!

The only way I know to determine if you are sensitive is to spend a few days in a low emf environment and see if you feel better. You are welcome to visit my low emf facility in Colorado. The bed is free for a few nights, but we can visit about a nominal fee for transportation and food if you need those. Details are at my website www.emsri.org. The emfs outdoors are about 10 microwatts per square meter, about a factor of 1000 lower than the figure you mentioned. The emfs in the bedroom are about 25 dB lower than outside or less than 0.1 microwatts per square meter.

That's the thing: traveling to other places isn't a "clean" experiment as there are other factors such as new location, perhaps longer sleep time due to it being vacation of a sort, perhaps day sleep, and maybe some unknown factors, too. Some of these may cause psychological difference. I usually feel better on vacations (mostly in the woods) but who doesn't feel better on vacation?

If I were to try shielding at home, what's the best cost effective bed canopy type? Conductive or non-conductive? Canopy or tent? Is there a way to rent a canopy?

Is it ok if I touch the conductive fabric during sleep or it must not be touched?

The fabric needs grounding. and if you live in apartment you need a sheet underneath that blocks the wifi...so you have a complete faraday cage. If you dont ground the canopy it can make you feel very electric. Grounding kits are available.

The body needs rest at night from emfs so it can repair itself, so a canopy can help with that. Some people though are sensitive to them. I find them very helpful.

I suffered with chronic fatigue for years, sometimes struggling to walk but now in a low emf environment I no longer suffer with it. The only way to find out is to give your body the needed rest and see if it makes a difference.

Thank you, but I'm aware about the need of grounding. But can grounded canopy be touched by naked hands/legs while sleeping inside a conductive canopy?

Yes, just ground the fabric and it will be OK to touch at any time.  A simple way to ground would be to clip a long thin conductive wire like copper to the bottom of the fabric and then wrap around the outer screw of an electrical outlet.  You would otherwise get little shocks whenever touching similar to what happens occasionally when touching something after walking across carpet.

behappy, I too suffered with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia before realizing that the EMF in my environment was causing it.  It will return when I spend too long near electronics or am in a place with high magnetic fields or RF.

Several times I've tried sleeping on grounded bedsheet (no canopy) and I definitely felt worse: could not fall asleep, agitated etc. Is that a clue of something? Is that because I'm in hight EMF field and grounding without shielding increases EMF reception by my body?

The sheet was grounded to an electrical outlet.

My experience with grounding (Earthing) sheets for the first week with cord plugged into ground of an electrical outlet showed that my skin AC voltage dropped to zero.  I slept good for a few days.  But the voltage measurement climbed dramatically a week later and my sleep was poor.

So I connected the sheet to an outside ground rod.  Surprisingly, the voltage climbed even higher than connected to the electrical outlet, and the AC magnetic field around my house was a low 0.02 mG.  I never have been able to figure out what was going on but did discontinue using that grounding sheet.

Thanks for the info. My theory is that grounding just makes us more effective antennas.... What EMF protective measures eventually helped you? Had the bed canopy helped?

You also have the option of painting and shielding a room although that is a little more complicated. I find using a canopy and also wearing a shielding hat helpful. We are sensitive souls and all different so canopies can be ok for some, but affect others, but unless you move from that environment, there isn't much option to reducing the emf field you are exposed to.

I just wish I had known what was causing my problems and used a canopy years ago. Over time the body can overload with emfs and you can end up becoming hypersensitive...and then it is very difficult to reverse.

It is interesting Fogtop how symptoms of Chronic Fatigue disappear in a low emf environment. My work used to be near a Garrison and on business parks. so lots of radar, and phone mast exposure. Then we moved to an estate near a phone mast! Hence the extreme exhaustion! And eventually the EHS came on. No amount of clean eating etc made any difference....but being away from these sources did! There must be so many health issues out there caused by this!

I have a friend who recently told me she has lived in a very low emf environment for a while, and says she is almost recovered. Just shows... :]

In reply to Aragorn and BeHappy about what helped to reduce EHS symptoms:

If the problem in your sleeping area is RF, the canopy will help greatly.  I was so sensitive at one time that the only way I could safely watch TV/movie was through the transparent canopy (Aaronia Shield) while sitting inside the canopy with the TV outside.

I have a relative whose house I felt terrible after three smart utility meters were installed outside.  She woke up one morning and could barely move from being in so much pain.  She, who had always been healthy, was diagnosed with Lupus and put on dangerous steroids and other meds.  Her lab work did not show a good prognosis for her getting better.

I had discovered how much the canopy helped me, so we helped her obtain a canopy along with the under-bed mat.  Within a few weeks of usage she called and said that her problem was not Lupus, it was those @##&&** meters and the nearby antennas controlling them.  She said that while at home, she couldn't wait to crawl back into the canopy at night, and her husband who was not RF sensitive felt the same way about the canopy.  She discontinued the Lupus meds, later moved to a rural area, went on to have two healthy babies, and has never had any indication of Lupus except that her face will turn red if she talks too long on a cell phone.

She will tell you today that the canopy saved her life.  It helped me tremendously.  I take it with me whenever I travel with a take-apart PVC pipe frame that my husband made for travel as the majority of motels are EMF nightmares of high magnetic fields, Wifi, and poor electrical wiring, and then there is the MCS factor which many EHS people have.

Shielding paint does work very well as I just discovered after helping a person apply it in a house with nearby antennas.

Thank you!

To all: how did you find out that you are EMF sensitive? Was trying shielding the only way to know for sure, since symptoms match many other causes as well?

I only found out after 15 years of symptoms that I was EHS and it was when I switched off my wireless devices. When I realised what it was due to, I started shielding and I got better and better. I ended up spending 15k on measuring devices and shielding  but my home is a total Faraday cage and I feel absolutely great as long as I don't go out. All my problems are gone, I even lost a lot of weight. Earthing sheets will only help you if you first eliminate all the EMF and RF from your bedroom. Otherwise, all that electricity from the air will travel through your body into the ground and will make your symptoms worse. There is a cheap way to find out if a cannopy would help you. You can build a cheap Faraday cage but try not to touch it from the inside with bare body parts as I am not sure of the results. Try to build it large enough in order to avoid that. Here is a video but try it without the grounding sheet first
