Hi, Maureen,

I'd be happy to help you get the hang of your TriField meter. Please
send me whatever questions you have.

from your description it is possible your grounding has been
compromised. I've been in buildings where the grounding was poor
which caused the wiring to radiate EM more strongly. Getting proper
grounding definitely helps but can't eliminate EM emissions
altogether.

The power company may have also placed a new, heavy electrical load (a
new major energy consumer, perhaps) on your part of the grid .
Changing loads can make the whole power circuit behave differently.

The surges you referred to are reminiscent of a cycling load somewhere
on your power circuit, like pumps or something similar. It could also
be a combination of power usage by different houses, etc., that
created what's known as a 'modulation envelope'.

This electrical signal envelope has it's own frequency and effects
that are measurable.
