Hearing Aids

James
Hi Marc,

Do your hearing aids, like most of them, communicate with each other with radio waves through your head?  Do you like the idea of a radio transmitter in your ear?

James

I've had somewhat positive experience with EarthCalm, although nothing miraculous.  I could easily see one continue to go downhill with these, if you're taking additional steps to remove yourselves from harm's way.

And when I had to get hearing aids, that EarthCalm pendant was the ONLY thing I had in my collection of devices that helped with headaches caused be these.

No, those were even more intolerable than the ones I have now.  Mine only act as hearing aids, and have no wireless functionality.  They are still difficult to tolerate though, as they are digital, have a microprocessor & battery, and a microphone & speaker.

It'd be nice to try a good analog hearing aid, but those appear to be totally obsolete at this point.

Re: Hearing Aids

I thought that the pair of hearing aids which I have been wearing for 5 years were analog.  A few months ago, I attempted to order a new pair of these "analogs" before insurance coverage runs out only to find out that they're Audina Ana- + 60 (what's written on order form but may be a code for my hearing loss?) with non-computer-programable digital Simplex circuitry.

The hearing aid dealer talked me into first trying digital programmable aids since "people love them" before ordering the ones like I currently have.  They were immediately returned as they caused ear pain, dizziness, and unnatural sound.  I had to go into detail about my EMF sensitivity to make him understand that I need a pair like I currently have.

So he then ordered the non-programmable Audina digital Simplex version with a telecoil in one - which I was worried about for EMF- and I am very happy with them.  If you can find a hearing aid dealer who is willing to work with you and has or will create an account with Audina, perhaps this version of aids will work for you.  BTW, Audina calls these aids "analog".  They are not truly, however they appear to be one of the simpler entry digital models available with no programmability which really bothers me for some reason.  Audina cannot work directly with the public; they

Or you might try Lloyds Hearing online and ask Andy if he could get you a trial pair of this type.  He does have an account with Audina and is willing to work with people.  Lloyds has some of the most reasonable prices out there unless you can find them at Costco - which isn't possible as they've gone computer programmable digital only with all sorts of bells and whistles.

Andy at Lloyds had obtained from Prairie Labs in Minnesota some true analog circuitry and built me a pair of aids for $1400.  However, one of them caused my ear to ring when I removed them and conversation quality was weird, so I returned those.

So what is the name of these Audina hearing aids you like?

I went to the Audina website, and I have tried some that have looked like one of these in the past -- I may have even purchased them from Lloyds -- but they had such a bad problem with feedback that I didn't give them much of a chance.

The booklet that came with the hearing aids says, "Non-Programmable Analog Hearing Instruments".  They can be ordered in completely-in-canal, canal, mini-canal, Half Shell or full shell.  I purchased the half shell.  They have a volume control and trim pots.  I had a tele-coil added to one.

Audina passes them off as analog, however they have a simplex digital circuit or at least that's what a local dealer tells me.  They do sound and feel like the old analogs which I prefer.  I used to buy digital hearing aids from Costco.  One pair even had Bluetooth to listen to music playing on the other side of the house crystal clear.

After realizing I could not tolerate wireless, I had all wireless features on the aids turned off, but they continued to bother me even causing pain where they rested behind the ear.

I can wear the Audina aids all day - most days.  If I'm having a very ES day then everything bothers me even the aids.  Eiwellspring.org has a story of a Swedish EMF sensitive man living in an Assisted Living facility who couldn't stand to be where the residents gathered because he could feel and was bothered by all the hearing aids in the room!
