Hearing Aids

superdrove
Has anyone had any experience with hearing aids?  Since they are powered by a tiny battery, do they still cause ES symptoms, headaches, etc?  Is there a safer alternative?  Are some brands better than others?  I know nothing about them.

RE: Hearing Aids

Fog Top
I have worn hearing aids for 30 years because of a childhood illness which left me with a great deal of hearing loss.  I wore the analog type for many years- they were somewhat difficult to get used to as they amplify all sound.  Then about 15 years ago I switched to a programmable type which had directional microphones and different settings for different sound environments.  These often had to be taken back in to the audiologist for reprogramming - especially if I drove through a fast food drive through with the windows down because the wireless sensors in the drive through area would make the aids malfunction.  Also, restrooms with wireless sensors made them go wacky.

Then four years ago I switched to totally digital hearing aids.  They were programmed to operate with Bluetooth technology and the aids in each ear synched when a button was pushed on one aid.  A year later, I began to have acoustical trauma - meaning that my ears became super sensitive to sound - even when not wearing the aids.  Also, I would notice that at various places outside of my home my aids would make a high pitched sound almost like a bird chirping.  This was in 2009, which I now know to be the time that our city was installing antennas and new cell towers and repeaters getting ready for the smart grid.

I've purchased an expensive high quality RF analyzer and have realized that the sudden high pitched noise coming out of nowhere is actually a pulsed microwave frequency coming from cell towers.

In 2011, two smart meters were installed on my home - one of the numerous side effects of this "stupid" technology was that my ears began to ring, buzz, and hum 24/7.  The aids tend to mask the noise, but may also be contributing to it as they operate with microwave technology.  I had the Bluetooth and synch features turned off, but my ears often do a "zeroing out" thing and then scream when I'm wearing the aids.

I'm set up for a audiology consultation this month to see about returning to an analog type aid.  When the tinnitus started after smart meter installation I had my hearing tested and one year later I had them tested again.  The test indicated that I have lost 20% more of my hearing within that year, whereas for 26 years previously my hearing loss had remained almost the same.  I've read several studies where some ES persons lose their hearing when affected by dirty electricity.  My power company switched to Power Line Communication with their smart metering installation- this produces the dirtiest electricity possible which emits from the wiring inside the home for about 50 feet outward.  The other meter by the gas company was wireless and communicated with the power company meter.  I was able to block those outside microwave frequencies from entering my home, but power line communication is impossible to filter - one has to cut the power at the mains to keep the RF out of the house.

Re: RE: Hearing Aids

Patricia
i live in the country now, dear.
i can't say that i've escaped, that's not true.
but there are no smart meters,

the owner of the house is a technophile
and there is a TON of dirty electricity and
wifi and such - in the house.  so i spend
most of my time in a building that houses
the office space... and actually there is a
lot of dirty electricity here, but we switched
from wifi in the office to ethernet.  pshew!

i was commiserating with bonnie because
it must be AWFUL to have digital hearing
aids in this electromagnetic climate.  aarghhhh!!!
i have a friend who is deaf and uses hearing
aids but she sticks to analog - old style -
rather than digital, even tho her own brother
is a hearing doctor.  it is amazing how much
noise there is in this modern world.  even
airplanes going over and cars going by wreck
the peace and quiet.  i remember the week
after 911 and how clear the skies were and
how quiet it was.  :)  nice.  :)

love, patricia

Bonnie,

Thank you for your informative testamonial based on 30 years experience with hearing aids.  Looks like the consensus is that analog hearing aids are the safest. Sorry you had to go thru hell to find that out.  But your misery was not in vain because you have helped others prevent the same problem by telling your story.

RE: Hearing Aids

hannah
In reply to this post by Fog Top
I have experienced deafness over very many years and experienced tinnitus long before using hearing aids. Over about 12 years I used first analog and then digital hearing aids.  Tinnitus and the different ringing, humming, etc. sounds that it causes became familiar over many years but sometimes I noticed sounds of a quite different type which I believed were something else.
Living in the remote countryside I do not come close to all the electronic types of equipment that I would encounter in the city, and I only wear the hearing aids when they are needed as I feel that the less I wear them the better it is for my health including head and ear comfort.

During the past year I noticed variations in my hearing both when I was wearing the hearing devices and when without them and wondered about the cause. Also during this time our electricity supplier installed smart meters. There was no choice about it. The electricians/technicians just came along and changed over the meters. My smart meter happens to be on the wall immediately outside where I often sit at night to watch tv or when reading or using the telephone, so it is quite close to me.

The other evening I began to hear a kind of 'distant motor' sound which is difficult to describe and which I could not account for. It was uncomfortable to my ears. After half an hour or so of this a friend rang and I talked with her while sitting on the couch near the smart meter. In addition to the first sound there had begun another layer of sound, something vibrational and resonating in a way that was similar to human
voices. (There were no humans talking anywhere nearby)  I was able to talk with my friend but was feeling disturbed by what was happening in my ears and found myself unable to concentrate properly on our conversation. After we had stopped talking the uncomfortable vibration and noise continued for some time, lasting in total for about two hours or more.

Up until this time I had been unaware of the effects of smart meters and it was only after this experience that I read the posts on this site referring to smart meters and hearing aids, so now I am wondering how much that smart meter is affecting me. I am due to have a hearing test soon and am also wondering should I consider going back to analog hearing aids. I would be interested to hear what others think.

RE: Hearing Aids

Fog Top
Hannah, your story is so similar to mine.  I became ES after a power line communication smart meter was installed, only I seldom had tinnitus before the smart meter. I wear digital hearing aids and since becoming ES I have trouble wearing them for very long and plan to buy analog ones.  With or without the aids in I now have ringing, buzzing, weird tones and hear the life-altering low frequency hum like a diesel engine 24/7.  I have also lost 20% more of my hearing since smart meter installation and my hearing loss had previously remained the same for many years.

I plan on purchasing analog aids online since my hearing aid center says that they are unable to provide anything but digital - but they did offer to do the mold impression for free to send in to an online store where analog aids can be purchased.  These websites posted below sell analog aids.  I'm unable to recommend them as I've never dealt with the company, but if you do purchase from them please let us know if they stand behind their product and if you notice a difference with the analog.

p.s.  you should send in a formal complaint to your Public Utilities Commission about the noise nuisance created by the smart meter and smart grid

Fog Top,
Good luck with your new analog aids.
If I gain any new information I will share it with you.
