Hello, folks. I'm new here, just starting to explore ES as a cause of my strange nervous system & heart-related symptoms. I DO NOT have the funds to hire an EMF expert. We rent, so re-wiring is not going to happen. My husband was schooled as an electrician, but no longer works in the field. But he's willing to troubleshoot.
For three years, we lived on a street near an industrial zone, with high voltage lines running down the median. My health issues started in that house. Now we live in a 1940's home, which has a grounded main, but ungrounded outlets. We have typical 3 laptops, one desktop, 2 smartphones. The nearest cell tower is 1/2 mile away. I'm waiting for body voltage testing supplies to arrive. Meanwhile, I used a Gauss meter app on my smartphone to test levels throughout my home. The house average is 0.5, with a low of 0.1 in the bathtub. It spiked in expected places, like near my fridge and laptop. My husband's stereo speakers also had high readings (anyone know why?). The most curious readings came from the basement iron beam & post that supports the house (the post is not grounded, just sitting in concrete on the slab). The newer, insulated house main wire touches the beam, and there are some older wires running along it as well. Where they touch, there is a big spike in the readings, then all along the beam it's a high reading. Several of the HVAC vents throughout the house give the same readings as the beam (avg 1.4). I suspect the HVAC ductwork may be touching the house support beam. Am I right to be concerned about this? Are there any simple solutions (like insulating the wires that touch the beam)? I do feel better when grounding (outside), and am exploring grounding options for sleep and our computers, etc. Thanks for any input! |
Do you have an RF analyzer to detect how strongly you're being hit by that nearby cell tower?
Do you have copper/metal water pipes? The copper pipes in our home were carrying current which showed as a high magnetic field read on a gaussmeter and this contaminated our HVAC vents. We remedied that by removing a small piece of the copper water pipe wherever it entered or left the house and had an earth connection and spliced in a short piece of PVC pipe and used a "Shark" fitting obtained from Lowes or Home Depot to connect PVC with the copper. This stops the current from running on the pipes and has to be done wherever pipes enter or leave the house and connect with earth - we had a total of four splices. If the copper/metal plumbing is your issue, then when fixed it should clear up the current running on HVAC vents and beam. It's estimated that 92% of homes in the US have wiring errors which create a huge magnetic field when something on a circuit is drawing power. One way to determine this is by turning off all circuits in your breaker box and then turn on one at a time, take a gauss meter read in the room controlled by that circuit when nothing is turned on then turn on an overhead light and see if the magnetic field spikes. If this is your problem then I will send more info on how to fix this if you wish. However, with your ungrounded outlets I'm not sure if you will obtain the same results. Would have to ask my husband who fixed our wiring errors. Dimmer switches, CFL light bulbs (squiggly tubes), and fluorescent lights are EMF polluters. All speakers give off a huge magnetic field, even the speaker in your phone. I have problems when holding a landline corded phone to my ear and depend on the speaker phone and sit back from it. When I first developed ES I thought that pulsed RF/microwaves were my only problem, but now I think that I am most sensitive to magnetic fields. I know an EMF expert who does not believe that ES people should be worried about the body voltage reads. I gave up my pursuit of it with the grounding sheets after getting not relief of my ES symptoms. Oh, are you turning that Smart phone off most of the time and not spending much time on it? My RF analyzer shows that those things are pulsing microwaves constantly and at much higher power than an older flip-open cell phone. Thank you, your reply was very helpful & informative. @fog top (not sure if "@ mentions" work here???)
Yes, copper pipes. No way to measure cell tower RF. No CFLs, no nearby transformers, local power lines converge in our back yard about 50' from the house. Took the survey in the book "Zapped" today & found we are only a moderate risk. However, I've been hypersensitive to foods & other stimuli all my life, so it's no big surprise to be a "canary" yet again. I've swept through the house unplugging &/or moving all movable appliances further from sitting areas, and our bedroom. Bedroom has two outlets wired outside the walls at floor level, table lamps on each outlet. One space heater 5' from bed. Yes, spend too much time on that STUPID smart phone. ![]() I appreciate the advice on troubleshooting currents on water pipes, wasn't sure how to tell if it was coming from nearby houses, or feedback (sorry if wrong terminology) from our neutral wire. There's just so much to learn! I need to start another thread (or join one) on my symptoms. Mostly nervous system (buzzing inside) and heart rhythm problems. Too young for this! Will advise & thanks again. |

When you mention your symptoms, do you have a digital utility meter on your house [like a smart meter-even if they say it's not one-it is]?
Some good info about the copper water pipe. It's sort of re-assuring that once I move I will have food grade hose running into my place. No metal there. I have a very large space heater and that put out a lot, sort of like a clock radio. I almost never turn it on and will be getting a kerosene for any emergencies where heat or electric goes out. Not crazy about the fumes but for those one time emergencies... Can you get a landline, with out having to deal w/ centurylink? I know landlines are not very many places any more. I have tried to find a place that has enough distance from neighbors, but can't find one that has landline service. Now looking into something like "home phone connect" and putting it far from house and running cable in. I wish there were more people that tested home: the big part of the cost is getting them to travel out, but the fee is not bad. When you have to pay fare and time to get them from one end of the state to the other or from NM to AZ, the cost becomes downright insane. Otherwise it could be no more than $200 to test and get some solutions. |
A smart meter was installed sometime after we moved in 3 years ago. It doesn't read high on my gauss meter, but then again, I don't know when it transmits. It's on the wall where the head of our bed is, one floor down.
My symptoms always peak around 4-6 am. I'm not sure if that's the active time for the heart/stomach meridian (as in acupuncture), or if my cortisol naturally peaks at that time??? So many things are coming together, including the strange tight scalp I experienced the whole time we lived near the high velocity lines. Found other's experienced the same with ES. We'll be doing body voltage testing this week. What a world! But I'm thrilled that I may have found the underlying or triggering issue of my diverse symptoms. BTW, my bathtub is the only place in the house that has a low reading (0.1). I napped in it today and felt immediate relief (though I "buzzed" for the first half hour). Thanks again. |
Becky,
Near an electric meter will show a high read on a gauss meter because that is where the AC power supply enters a building. A gauss meter (for AC low frequency) will not be able to measure the strength of smart meter transmissions - a high frequency analyzer is needed for that. On the other hand, I've read that when smart meters are installed the ground currents will rise and there will be higher magnetic fields in the area than previously existed. Very bad and another reason why smart meters need to be banned. What gauss meter reads are you getting throughout your home and especially your bedroom? Many people with smart meters report problems of insomnia and waking up around 2 to 4 AM each night with their hearts pounding and feeling panicked. It's the time of day that the utilities are sending their big reads and may be downloading info to the meters either wirelessly or through the power lines. One man told me that so many people complained about this problem that the utility changed the "big send" from 3 AM to 6 AM.
