Dear Group,
I wanted to share that Dr. Eric Gordon and his staff will be doing a panel presentation at Cafe Gratitude in Healdsburg, CA next Monday, Aug. 2. I have submitted a question for the event about Smart Meters and the role of electrosmog in the onset and continuation of chronic illnesses like EHS, MCS, and CFS. I am organizing a group trip to Healdsburg, from the East Bay or Marin (in the San Francisco Bay Area), for this event. I think Dr. Gordon's work is wonderful. He specializes in, and has a tremendous depth and breadth of knowledge about, the new environmental illnesses: chemical sensitivities, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, electrical sensitivity, etc. If anyone has an interest in going, and in traveling with my group, please let me know. There is more information below, including a link to a 10-min. interview between Dr. Gordon and Shea, the event organizer, and interesting commentary about Dr. Gordon's work, beneath his picture. All best, Sue --------------------- This week at Monday Night LIVE! @ Cafe Gratitude we'll be having a panel discussion with practitioners from Gordon Medical Associates. This amazing group of Doctors, Naturopaths, Nurse Practitioners and others do an amazing job of thinking outside the box of conventional medicine in an attempt to heal the root cause of illness, rather then just addressing the symptoms. We will be discussing Biochemical individuality, which is one of the reasons that a treatment that works for one person might not work for someone else. Please email me your questions for this panel! This is a great opportunity for you to get some of your questions answered by doctors who are pushing the boundaries conventional thinking. So get me those questions soon! NEXT WEEK AT MONDAY NIGHT LIVE! @ CAFE GRATITUDE: Monday August 2nd, 2010 : 7:00pm-8:30pm Gordon Medical Associates Panel Panel: Exploring Biochemical Individuality 5 Minute Interview with Dr. Eric Gordon. If you're living with pain, chronic illnesses, conditions that never seem to resolve, or are seeking to optimize your health, it's time to look at new solutions and wisdom about your body, mind, and spirit. Gordon Medical Associates uses advanced alternatives in integrative medicine, blending traditional and alternative with a holistic approach. They listen deeply, observe, and communicate about your unique challenges. Their credentials and experience qualify them to offer both cutting edge alternative treatment and conventional medicine. THE PANEL INCLUDES: Dr. Eric Gordon, MD What Dr. Eric Gordon emphasizes is listening to his patients. "I believe my patients. Their description of what is going on in their body is the most accurate way we have to assess what is going on with them. I interpret the information they present, and blend it with laboratory results and imaging and other tests to determine a protocol that is customized to their condition." Patients with poorly defined chronic illnesses react differently to all types of environmental stressors and medical interventions. While one patient may respond well to a particular protocol, other patients may not respond at all, or even have a negative reaction. Dr. Gordon knows there is an interwoven complexity to these illnesses. There is a layering of the body's adaptations to environmental toxins and infections from pathogens that is unique to every person, depending on their genetic susceptibility, organ vulnerability, toxic exposures, medical history and life circumstances. The body's various biological systems - immune, endocrine, neurological, gastrointestinal and so on - influence each other and are influenced by each other, both in the development and progression of illness, and also its resolution. When illness has been present for a long time, a patient's body is almost invariably dominated by the sympathetic nervous system; it is in a state of hyper-vigilance, a constant 'fight-or-flight' mode. Dr. Gordon knows to begin with gentle interventions to help the body find a place of rest and safety. These initial steps allow the parasympathetic nervous system to function appropriately, to let the body find its way, and start healing itself. This necessitates an eclectic approach. Dr. Gordon says, "As the components of a person's chronic illness reveal themselves, so will treatment direction. Some patients may immediately benefit from intravenous therapies. Others may respond initially to energetic modalities, such as Frequency Specific Microcurrent or Photon Stimulation. Some patients may require antibiotics while, for others, herbal or homeopathic remedies may be more suitable. Everyone has different supplementation requirements, and needs to follow different detoxification strategies." In addition to seeing patients in his practice, Dr. Gordon has organized and served as medical advisor and moderator for a series of medical symposia in Northern California. From 2007-2009, these intensive five-day meetings brought together extraordinary faculties consisting of approximately 30 leading international academic medical researchers and cutting-edge clinicians, respectively focusing on CFS, Lyme, autoimmune diseases and autism. For Dr. Gordon, however, knowledge and understanding does not come primarily from research, but from interaction and direct experience with his patients. He is first and foremost a private practice physician. His deep respect for the biochemical individuality of his patients is at the heart of his approach. "The point is to carefully listen to each patient and correlate their subjective experience with pertinent objective laboratory tests, to determine unique treatment guidelines that allow the innate wisdom of the body to overcome illness and restore good health." Dr. Denis Cooluris, ND A licensed Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Denise Cooluris is a holistic physician who listens carefully and deeply to her patients, combining the diagnostic skills of a primary care physician with treatment philosophies that address the root cause of health issues. "My confidence in the body's innate ability to heal itself is the foundation of my approach with every patient. The body communicates its needs through the language of symptoms; the person communicates needs through their story. Therefore, if I were to choose one therapy that works finest above all others, it would be to listen." With specialties in integrative family practice, women's health, alternative cancer support, and botanical medicine, Dr. Cooluris blends cutting-edge medical science with the centuries-old wisdom of successful natural therapies to yield lasting results. Dr. Cooluris joined Gordon Medical Associates in May 2009, having completed her family practice residency and serving as adjunct faculty at Bastyr University, the nation's leading university of natural medicine. In addition to having practiced integrative medicine in a diversity of settings ranging from hospitals to directing medical relief efforts in Kenya, she has received advanced training with leaders in the field of integrative medicine. Her unique contribution to our medical community is her use of targeted therapies specific to naturopathic medical training, bringing a different approach to integrative medicine. A valuable addition to our GMA practitioner team, Dr. Denise brings her extensive experience in addressing chronic complex health concerns, and a strength in working with digestive concerns, autoimmunity, allergies, environmental medicine, detoxification, infectious diseases such as acute Lyme exposure and chronic viral infections. She welcomes patients of all ages, knowing that naturopathic and integrative medicine effectively addresses a diversity of acute or chronic health concerns. Jane Kennedy, NP, MN, MPH "Successfully finding a healthy balance in life involves attention to all aspects of who we are as human beings: body, mind, and spirit. By assessing and taking appropriate action, we can live vital, invigorated, and healthier years even during the second half of life." In her practice at GMA as a Certified Nurse Practitioner, Jane Kennedy draws on 28 years of experience as a clinician providing care in women's health, family and preventive medicine, dermatology, and menopausal health. Her specialized training includes studies with renowned experts such as Bernie Siegel and Andrew Weil, collaboration with the University of California/Irvine's Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine, and work with cancer and hospice patients, as well as leaders in the field of bioidentical hormones. Jane's focus is on mid-life health and wellness for women and men, and on hormonal issues at all ages. "My first job as a holistic health practitioner is understanding each patient's particular situation and desired approach to better health. Then I explore and present traditional and complementary medicine options for an integrative path to better health." At mid-life, we begin to notice physical symptoms affecting quality of life, often resulting from the decline in sex hormones. "Each patient comes to this phase of life with unique experiences, beliefs, health practices, and symptoms which must be approached individually." Research establishes that effective use of bioidentical hormones -- as opposed to synthetic hormones and their risks -- can be an important tool in relieving symptoms and preventing illnesses later in life. Jane effectively uses bioidentical hormones for many patients in her clinical practice. However, other issues must also be addressed for strong health and vitality at mid-life and beyond. Stress is the cause of over 80% of ill health, and must be attended to especially at mid-life. By testing and balancing adrenal function while following a realistic stress management program, Jane finds patients can add another level of well-being. She also assists with weight management, concentrating on shifting body physiology that often contributes to weight gain. By assessing and balancing thyroid function, glucose metabolism, gastrointestinal performance, cortisol, and sex hormones, and by adjusting nutritional and exercise lifestyle practices, Jane helps patients re-establish their body's ability to balance weight effectively. Jane's practice involves treatment and prevention as well as wellness promotion and health education at the community, university, and clinic levels. She offers a popular two-hour talk on menopause and bioidentical hormones at the GMA office each month. Jane is known for gentleness and understanding, consistently incorporating the health impact of spirituality in her work: "balance brings wholeness." Seeing an improved quality of life and a prognosis for optimal long-term health and vitality for her patients are two of Jane's most inspiring professional and personal rewards. He looks for and respects the individuality and uniqueness of each patient he sees, viewing each visit as an opportunity to discover which component of healing might still be missing. His unique bio-chemical approach blends traditional and alternative medicine, using the best of both worlds. At the welcome invitation of his longstanding friend and colleague, Eric Gordon, MD, he joined Gordon Medical Associates in April 2009. This allowed him to become a part of this medical community, along with the bonus of being closer to his three children and his wife's family, all of whom reside on the West Coast. Dr. Nathan opened the Fort Bragg branch of GMA in August, 2009. Neil is a gifted physician who is passionate about healing. Since he loves to learn, he considers himself "always a student", and gets fired up about learning new approaches that might work for his patients. Never satisfied to just learn superficially, when something grabs Neil's attention, he will research and study with the person who really KNOWS how to do it, so he can maximize its clinical benefits. Neil's specialties fit right in with Gordon Medical Associates - Lyme Disease, thyroid disease, chronic illness, chronic pain, autism, and the use of functional medicine and alternative medicine whenever possible. Dr. Nathan has extensive experience with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue, and uses the bio-medical approaches created by his good friend, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum. For Lyme Disease, Neil works with botanicals, herbs and homeopathy, as well as antibiotics when necessary. He also has expertise in working with chronic pain clinics in Minnesota and Missouri, and really appreciates the opportunity to help relieve pain for those who are suffering. Regardless of the illness or condition, he spends time learning and getting to know each patient to determine how gently or aggressively to treat, and in what manner. In addition to his background as a family practice physician, Dr. Nathan is also trained in a number of adjuvant modalities, including classical homeopathy, osteopathic manipulation including craniosacral therapy, prolotherapy, hypnosis and Reichian therapy. Dr. Nathan's book On Hope and Healing: For Those Who Have Fallen Through the Medical Cracks, with a foreword by Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, was completed this May, and is expected to be available next year.
