Ferrite Chokes

steve
Hey all, i just bought some ferrite bead chokes at Radio Shlock, I got 3 different sizes because I had no idea which size I needed.
Where would be the best place to use them? Keyboard cable, mouse cable, power cables, TC, etc? Or should they be put on every wire I can find?
Also, does it matter where on the wire it gets placed?
Thanks

I would put them near both ends of the mouse and keyboard cables,
video cables and data cables. But I think they only help with
fairly high impedance signals in the MHz region. They don't
address power supply issues.

Oh, I thought I only needed one per cable. Guess I better get some more! Bydata cables do you mean USB? I see my monitor cable already has one.

Re: Ferrite Chokes

I don't think anyone's reported a big improvement from using them anyway,
probably because the keyboard and monitor generate their own RF. I used on
or two on cables inside of an LCD TV monitor... there was significant
improvement but I also tried to improve ground connections and add a little
more shielding.

I once saw a professional RF detector that had big ferrites every several
inches on a cable that was a few feet long going from the probe to the
receiver.

Re: Ferrite Chokes

steve
I put one on my keyboard cable, one on my mouse cable, one on the usb cable from my printer and one on the coax cable to my TV. Not sure if I should bother buying more.
