European Parliament: Smart Meters by 2020

Unfortunately, soon after the European Parliament voted in Feb. 2009 favorably on the health concerns regarding EMF's, comes this other decision.  

August 14, 2009 Decision of European Parliament on Smart Meters

"(ia) Member States shall ensure the implementation of intelligent metering systems that shall assist the active participation of consumers in the electricity supply market. The implementation of those metering systems may be subject to an economic assessment of all the long-term costs and benefits to the market and the individual consumer or which form of intelligent metering is economically reasonable and cost-effective and which timeframe is feasible for
their distribution.

Such assessment shall take place within 18 months after the date
referred to in Article 49(1).

Subject to this assessment, Member States or any competent authority
they designate shall prepare a timetable with a target of up to 10 years for the implementation of intelligent metering systems.

Where roll-out of smart meters is assessed positively, at least 80 % of consumers shall be equipped with intelligent metering systems by 2020.

The Member States, or any competent authority they designate, shall
ensure the interoperability of those metering systems to be implemented within their territories and shall have due regard to the use of appropriate standards and best practice and the importance of the development of the internal market in electricity;"

Consider that this should not mean only wireless connection: an alternative is PLC - powerline connection - like was implemented in Italy by the main State Energy company, ENEL ...

Recently practitioners doing Thermograms have noticed that they are registering a full level hotter in women's breasts, which they are linking to installation of SmartMeters.  This is very worrysome.

Please file your comments at both the sites below.  California Public Utilities Commission and other public officials need to hear from you NOW.

Come in person on Thursday, December 3rd, at 9am in the CPUC chambers @ 505 Van Ness and make your complaints known  (be sure to leave 8 written copies for their records).  Best to get there by 8:30am to get registered to speak; you get asked the subject, and you could say something like:  utility services, public safety re utility, water leak, gas pipe safety, electric almost anything including maintenance, rates, regulations; if too many people say "SmartMeter" they may try to consolidate those speakers.  Put the full 2 hours on your parking meter as an hour may not be enough to get through the speakers.  You can also sign up on the CPUC calendar ahead of time, but still have to register on arrival.  If you come after 9am they probably will let you have 1 minutes after others are finished; actually if there are a lot of people, you may only get 1 minute anyway.  i always come prepared with 3 versions - 3min, 2min, and 1 minute speeches; written
 one to hand in can be longer.

complaints with CPUC Consumers Affairs Branch (CAB) office. ALL
issues should be reported to CAB, including over billing, health
problems, interference, meter fires, privacy rights, installation
complaints, intimidation, being lied to, poor handling of your
complaint, etc should be filed here:

LET'S FLOOD THEIR OFFICE WITH COMPLAINTS!

Hi, Cab,

Not that I would have been able to come to the meeting, however, the date in the post for the meeting was not correct--December 3rd was a Saturday not a Thursday.  This is the third such public ES meeting/ protest I have seen publicized which had an erroneous date/ day/ or time.  I am beginning to think this is not by accident!?!?

I know of one ES organization which was infiltrated by a cell phone company exec's daughter (she became secretary of the organization).  Beware when false info comes out about meetings; this could be a sign of something similar.  Just sayin'.

Evie,

Interesting info, but not really surprising. The whole international stampede for smart meter "roll out" smacks of conspiracy likely related to Agenda 21 and Population Control.  The hidden way the product was approved by the government, the way they are installed, without notice, breaching their contract; AND the massive amount of money in Government subsidies or "Grants" being paid out with taxpayer money.  You would fall out of your chair if you knew how much money the U.S Government is paying the Utilities to subsidize the "roll out". 

If taxpayers are footing the bill, why don't they get a say in the matter?  Who approved these "Grants"?  Why are they short cutting the approval process and why all the secrecy, stonewalling the public and continually claiming they are safe when they know they are not? 

Because the U.S. Government is paying out so much to finance the "roll out" they might be considered complicit in any lawsuits and accountability for the public financial disaster related to Smart Meters that is coming down the pike when there is likely to be a ruling to RECALL them.  But, the Power Utilities very cleverly know how to get the U.S. Government to foot the bill so any losses they sustain will have already been passed off on the taxpayers, So either way, Smart Meter or not, the public gets screwed AGAIN!!!  Corporations have fine tuned this technique over many years of seeing how far they can push us.  They are masters at getting the taxpayers to pay for their costs, even while the people have no say in what they are paying for.  Hence, it is time to Occupy Smart Meters.
