EMFs from underground power lines

alinepapille
A friend of mine asked me to bring over my Trifield meter so she could
test her boyfriend's house. I was surprised to find elevated fields in
the whole house, up to 4 milligauss (in the front rooms).

Realised that the same reading was outside and along the pavement.
Other side of the road had negligible reading. Readings are no doubt
coming from an underground power line.

Would it help talking to Maui Electric? Would they even know what we
are talking about?

Can anything be done about this sort of situation?

My friend says she feels tired and stressed.

Thanks for any advice,
Aline

You can give it a try, but most likely
they'll take your name, address, and
promise to get back to you, but never
hear from the authorities again.

That's what happened to my parents
who have an underground line next to
their house. 1-2 mili gauss throughout
the house. up to 50 mili gauss above
the underground line. Great place for
children to play, along with the stinking
pesticides these idiots lay down at will.

Well, your friend could move, or could try some EMF protection devices
and see if any of these help, or install shielding along the walls and
floors and see if that helps...

Shielding a whole house from magnetic fields is usually not practical.

The electric company should know what you're talking about, but
they may say that a few milligauss is nothing to worry about.

Often underground lines result in much smaller fields. Either there's
a lot of current flowing, or the current may be more in one direction
than the other (unbalanced). If it is unbalanced, there is probably
also current in water pipes or the ground. It is possible to test this
and some electric companies may at least try to balance the
current better (if they can).

Ed Leeper's book Silencing the Fields gives advice on being friendly
with the electric company.

Good luck.

Well, yes, but it is an option...

If the goal is to "feel better", then experimenting with various
EMF protection devices may be one of the easier solutions. Or,
removal of all metal from the body (no metal-framed eyeglasses,
no metal dental work, starting a heavy metal detoxification
program, etc.)

I guess my question should have been : can they do anything about it
anyway? i.e. is this 'normal' and unavoidable living near underground
power lines or is something malfunctioning?

We did contact Maui Electric re the hotspots in our own house (we've
also had quite a few lights and sockets blowing) and someone came out
to see if there was anything unusual going on with the supply to the
house (which there wasn't). Our problems come from the house wiring.

Thanks,
Aline

When lights and sockets are blowing, often the reason is, that the
powersuply (i.e. the voltage is going up and down too much) is not constant.

In Belgium we have 220 Volts (50 Hz), but ist is generally now 230 Volts.
The power is coming over landlines, from concrete masts in the streets to
the houses.
Every so and so much masts, one can see a big transformer mounted.
The explanation is, that the voltage may drop to 190 Volts, but when it
raises to 240 Volts, this transformer keeps it below 240 Volts.
So, if you have constantly 230Volts, the light bulbs will go for many years,
but if one has many ups and downs in the mains, the bulbs will have a very
short lifetime.
I know of cases in the Netherlands where they have to replace the bulbs
every month.

One can see this phenomenon, but placing a multimeter for a longer period
and checking regularly.

Aside this effect, one may have also the *dirty power* in the mains
electricity line.
See Stetzer.

If you can find an electrician who understands that current loops are bad
that may help. If you have switched outlets or 3-ways wired wrong he
may be able to fix it in under an hour (or it may involve the expense of
running
new wires).

If it is dirty power, Stetzers may help but you may need an electrician to
put in outlets on both phases near the service entrance (see Stetzer
instructions).
Here's another approach if you're going to have an electrician, ask about
installing
one of these. I'm considering getting one for my house but have not looked
into
it yet:
