EMF from Room A/C units

Loni Rosser
Hi All!

The room I am contemplating building in the back of my house; I would need to put in a room a/c unit. What about the EMF that would put out??

Any experience with this? Sounds like it could work execpt for maybe this issue.

Loni

What climate do you live in?

Shaded-pole type fans are usually low-emf. They tend to be used
in "squirrel cage" type fans. I have seen swamp coolers with this
kind of fan.

A heat pump might be another option to explore. I don't know much
about A/C units. If the roof and stucco are white or nearly white
and the glass is low-e, you may not need AC?

Re: EMF from Room A/C units

Oh no, I need A/C, This is AZ, the desert. It's up to 115 degress sometimesin the summer.

The room a/c units sometimes attract mold & then put off EMF so I don't want to build this thing & not be able to use an A/C unit. I wonder if you canuse a regular unit that a house uses only on a smaller basis & then situate the unit far enough away from the guest room?"

any thoughts? Loni

In AZ because it's dry there, you can get great cooling from a swamp cooler.

Hi, Loni,

I reacted this summer to my husband putting a window ac unit in the back bedroom where he sleeps when it gets too hot for him (I do without).  I did not always react to this unit; it was a new reaction this summer, so I am wondering if maybe over time it overloaded the wiring.  I also notice that I react to a light switch now in that room--that is a new thing too. My thought is to make sure your wiring is done right to handle a/c and/or heating.  Also, I don't know whether digital bothers you, but I have beentrying to buy everything for my new home "dumbed down".  I think they now put too many options on appliances.  I have no need for a remote control, for instance.  If I am too lazy to go turn on an appliance then I am the one with the problem, not the appliance!  lol

Just my 1 cent on the subject,
Diane

Hi Diane, I just talked to my Building Biologist & he said there are a/c units that are small that the compressor is outside & you have a tube that comes up with a fan. Sort of like a regular home. He's going to look it up for me tonight. Loni

It would be smart to try to design it so the electricity comes into the room

very close to where the AC is. Using twisted wire is advised, shielded if
possible. Regular round 3 conductor NM cable is twisted; it's for wiring
3-way switches. You won't need the red wire.

Ha, well, I haven't presented it to the husband yet. Ahhh. Might be througha lawyer.
I am concerned about still getting fried every time I set foot out of the room. Going outside & in the house. I have some numbness in toes & fingers from the readiation. Not sure if it is the right thing to do just yet but seems to be the only answer at this point. Loni
