EMF Safety Posters Idea

davidrsnell
I'm building a site meant to give away top-quality safety posters as a free service. I think EHS fits in very well, for many reasons including these:

-EMF is a set of invisible phenonmena that are confusing to people, so they need help understanding it.

-There are some myths to debunk. Like Marc says, there is a great deal of minsinformation out there.

-We tend to forget to be cautious to protect against EMF, because it's unseen and works so gradually that it wrecks our health slowly and very insidiously.  So having safety posters up and visible would be a great help to us all.

-Posters can also spread the word  about EMF dangers effectively, to help others avoid the health scares we've all had to go through.

So think back on what you've learned that might really help others.  What helped *you* the most?  Here are some poster ideas I'll certainly be creating and posting online:

-General EMF safety (how to avoid the top 8-12 causes of EMF health problems)

  -Bedroom EMF safety

  -Kitchen EMF safety

  -Vehicular EMF safety

  -Using electrical gadgets safely

  -Using computers safely

-Protecting your body with anti-EMF clothing and armor

-Using nutrition to bolster your health

So, your thoughts?  Are there other  subjects for you'd like to be covered by a safety poster?  Would you like to recommend threads or web pages that you think would be a great help on these topics?

I look forward to hearing from you!

I support this idea also. I have no way to print posters but if they available as PDF I could send them to friends and family and share on Facebook or similar.

Could you make them also available as PDFs?

Yes Elle, the posters will all be converted to PDF too  for anyone to download.  Using one of the many free HTML-to-PDF converters on the Web, some of them do it really well.

It looks like we have a good level of interest in safety posters. There are probably a lot of passive supporters.

I'll take a look at other forums and Facebook groups, I think we can stir up enough interest to get started soon.  In the meantime I'll make a couple of helpful safety posts per week.

Some other ways I can help are in the fields of health and finances. My site GoodLifeMission.com is all about "health, safety and financial freedom for all."

I joined the Facebook group to post about thisidea, but I find it confusing.  I don't see a way to start a thread, it seems like a very jumbled-up system.  Maybe that's because I'm new to Facebook.

Can someone please advise me how to get a good thread on safety posters going on Facebook?  Is there anywhere else where we're likely to get a decent volume of responses?

It should be straightforward enough to post a new topic on the Facebook group.

I know there is a "New Facebook" layout which is admittedly confusing, but I'm using a browser extension to revert it back to the old layout.

That Facebook group is probably one of the larger groups around on the subject, at 4000 members.

Thanks Marc for your kind attention and quick help.  I tried making a post on FB, but there didn't seem to be any way to select a Topic or Subject.  I clicked on "Add To Your Post" and the "More" link too, but neither one led to a topic.  Maybe if I downloaded your browser extension it would be clear on how to do it.  I use Google Chrome for my Mac mainly, also Firefox and Safari. Thanks in advance if you can help.

There isn't a "topic" or "subject"... there is just the text of the post, and maybe a picture associated with it.

The browser extension I'm using is this:

  https://revertsite.com/

This doesn't change the functionality of Facebook, just reverts it back to the old look that many of us are very familiar with.

So, looking at my Facebook in a web browser...

Select the group ("Electrical Sensitivity Support Group").

There should be a "Write Post" box at the top, and a "Write Something" text area within that.  So you write whatever you want to say there.  Then click on the "Post" button.

That's it!

Re: EMF Safety Posters Idea

The post is up at the Facebook group (the same post as the first post in this thread.)  If you're a group member, you'll see it here (let me know if you don't):

https://www.facebook.com/groups/emfSensitivity/permalink/1561507644049586

If you're not a group member, I suppose clicking that link would lead you to a page inviting you to join.

If the FB thread draws much interest, I'll somehow cross-fertilize it with this es-forum.com thread.

The way FB seems to work, there's no "topic" per se, there are just posts and replies to posts.  The replies are the closest thing to an actual thread.

It occurs to me that an excellent way to get a start on creating some safety posters would be to first create a directory of short articles that are heavily focused on giving quick tips.  I started a thread for this idea at:

Re: EMF Safety Posters Idea

It occurred to me to do a Google search for any posters on EMF safety. I did locate one:

https://www.hightechhealth.com/product/emf-poster/

But it mainly addresses the harmful effects, not very helpful at all.  Maybe somebody who's better at research can find some pre-existing poster or maybe a short article or infographic that can be used as a helpful poster.

I did a search for "good safety poster design" and found some good resources today.  Nothing EMF-specific, but it will help us design such posters down the line:

Re: EMF Safety Posters Idea

I recently assigned an assistant the task of making a safety directory on any topics she wanted.  Here's the result:

http://www.freekindposters.org/safer-living-directory.htm

As an experimental test, I didn't tell her to include EMF safety. She knows I suffer from EMF, but still she forgot all about including it!

It's a nice effort, considering she's a Filipino virtual assistant. Still it needs improvement, which will be forthcoming in due time.

I haven't found time to actually make any safety posters yet.  But here's a quick way to make your own safety poster:

  1. Find a short article on a relevant EMF subject

  2. Use my previous post https://www.es-forum.com/Making-monitor-displays-easier-to-read-tp4035294.html to get a "bookmarklet" that makes all text boldface and easier to read

  3. Print the article and use a highlighter to mark out the most important safety points

  4. Add your own anti-EMF discoveries using a big tipped pen

That's all I have time for this week.  I'll keep this thread alive and develop this idea more when I have time.

Re: EMF Safety Posters Idea

I finally am finding time for my idea to create safety posters that cover EMF-related issues.  The home site for the posters will be http://www.freekindposters.org.  The website is up now and you can go there to read what the site's about.

In a nutshell, as it says on the home page: "There's a big need for a better way to disseminate easy-to-learn safety information. And that's a need this site aims to step in and fill."

Starting with EMF and ES. Then it will grow to cover dozens more topics related to health, safety and quality-of-life!

The basic poster development process will be to (1) post lists of helpful principles here at ES-Forum.com, (2) ask for your input to help improve it, then (3) stitch those maxims into 5-10 posters.  They will be made downloadable as free PDF files.

The one poster now available at FreeKindPosters.org covers dog safety.  That's mainly because it's a much easier topic than human safety.  The site also presents links to five other pages I've written before, covering important human safety topics:

  Keeping Safe From Crime
  24 Top Health Tips
  Traffic Safety
  12 Worst Consumer Mistakes
  My ES-Forum.com Posts

Here's another link that shows all the topics I've started to try and help people on this site:  https://www.es-forum.com/template/NamlServlet.jtp?macro=user_nodes&user=495044&filter=topics_only (you need to login to this forum to see it.)

In a couple of days I'll also post some special benefits for forum members:  Free site access, free really-useful downloadables, that sort of thing.

I've converted the four safety aricles I've authored into free PDF files that will print well. They are three to seven pages filled with quick tips, which is fine for keeping as handy notes. Someday I'll convert them into one or two pages, for easy use as posters you can hang anywhere.

They don't cover EMF topics, strictly speaking. Still, they are "good to know" and they also serve as examples of the public-spirited, humanely beneficial writing I like to do. Free downloadable EMF safety posters are coming soon. Here is what's available now:
  • An auto safety course formerly sited at AutoSafetyHub.org, now archived at AutoSafetyHub.GoodLifeMission.com (or download this 4-page PDF.) It has some really funny elements to help make it popular among younger drivers.

  • The 12 Worst Consumer Goofs (or 5-page PDF) that can threaten your health, safety and financial freedom. This one also uses funny pictures to help keep people interested.

  • The Happier Healthier Life Award (or 7-page PDF) giving 24 tips and 24 secrets for better health. If you think about it, health and safety are closely related:  Safety is normally understood as defending from threats to your health that come from outside your body, while good health is about making sure you are safe and vibrant inside your body. This "Award" is a no-nonsense list packed with great info. When you click on any tip topic you like, you'll instantly receive more in-depth information.

  • The How To Keep Safe From Crime (or 3-page PDF) tip list gives basic lessons on how to keep your home safe, plus a section on how to stay personally safe when not at home. Also you'll learn how to handle dangerous people, what to teach kids, and how to protect your personal data.

There is also a free dog safety poster you can download at FreeKindPosters.org.

Re: EMF Safety Posters Idea

It occurred to me that people might be calling their graphic designes "infographics" instead of "posters" and indeed that is the case.  It made for an interesting time looking through Google's image results.

I'll reveal the best images over the next few days.  Some are good as functional posters that help remind us to safeguard ourselves against EMF. Others are just really interesting "food for thought".
