Computer speakers

steve
Hey all,

We had a topic about this a while ago. I decided to use my meter and check the EMFs around my new computer set-up. I was surprised how much one speaker gave off even when they were turned off so I decided to replace them. I had 2 older sets in the garage (no separate bass either, just 2 speakers).
One set gave off very little EMFs from the speakers themselves but the power module gave off a ton and decided it would be too close to my lower body. The other set gave off just as much from the transformer and also from one speaker.
So, my question is is there any computer speaker set out there that is relatively safe to use? The sound out of my Mac Mini is not something I can live with long term. I don't need or like bass just want a small 2 speaker set.
Thanks,
Steve

I gave up on using computer speakers, and instead am using a mini stereo system for PC sound output.

That is, the headphone out on the PC goes to an "Aux Input" on a mini CD receiver (old model made by TEAC, with a class B amp, not the newer pulse-width modulated class D/T amps).

Then the mini CD receiver has speaker output terminals, and I run speaker wire to old-school bookshelf speakers (old & small speakers from ADS).

Although the speakers are both sides of the monitor, the mini CD receiver is a few feet away (by the PC), as that doesn't need to be close to me.

This setup has been much better for me than in the old days when I used "computer speakers", as the power bricks & amplifiers in those can be pretty nasty.

I don't have the room for all that. I wonder if anyone has tried USB powered speakers?
