Hi,
My computer is way more comfortable now I have moved the battery back- up and tower far away but I still feel invaded by what I presume to be ELFs from my screen and keyboard. I've ignored it for months even though I feel very drained and tense after using the computer for less than an hour but now my body has decided to make me take notice by giving me back pain (only when I sit at the computer - and it's not the chair!). So now I am wondering what shielding to use. Looking at the SPECTRUM® Contour Filter, the DELUXE CENTER-MOUNT ANTI-RADIATION SCREEN and also considering just using Clear-Shield to cover the monitor screen. Is it advisable to cover the back with some shielding cloth too and what about using VeilSheild to cover the keypad? Does anyone have any advice based on their own experince with these products? Thanks, Aline |
If it's ELF that bothers you then the screens
you mention won't help. Though it's probably the RF that's causing the damage. I have veilshield covering my LCD monitor. It doesn't do crap to reduce the RF, at least that's what my meter and my symptoms says. But I keep it there anyway. Remeber that shielding can work for or against you. There's a lot of trial and error involved. I have had success using fabric to block some RF frequencies.
Veilshield is good for a monitor, but very thin, almost delicate. But I've stopped using it (my 15" LCD is TCO certified (which unfortunately isn't too strict regarding RF), and I keep it over 2 feet away--but maybe I should shield it). I've also used "high performance silver mesh" <http://lessemf.com/fabric.html#1222> On Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 5:03 PM, jaime_schunkewitz < [hidden email]> wrote: > If it's ELF that bothers you then the screens > you mention won't help. I have had good results using a Kenmark LCD TV model number 15KN10E5. Telephone number for Kenmark on this manual is 1-866-346-7176. It does not seem to have a transformer in the monitor and has it in the cord near the end of the cord which I have in my faraday cage several feet away from the computer. I use two screens. One is just an ungrounded anti glare screen and it is the first screen. The second screen is a grounded screen from Less EMF. Can't say why it works better with two screens but it does.

I thought that these shields block electric fields as well as RF. I
have the same feeling when I am near an extension lead so I think electric fields bother me. I didnt realise screens emitted RFs too?? Thanks for clarification. I'm starting to think it is having my hands on the keyboard and mouse
that are affecting me because it is 'plugging' me into the electrical circuit of the whole house. Would gloves or some type of personal shielding work better? Presumably your keyboard and mouse have plastic surfaces, so they are not conducting electricity and gloves wouldn't make any difference. It is certainly possible that you have a keyboard or mouse that is unnecessarily difficult to tolerate, and you might want to try buying an old one on eBay to see if it's more tolerable? For example, many mouses sold today are wireless, use optical tracking, and are USB. I on the other hand am using a wired mouse with the old ball tracking and PS2 connector. Although, I'm not convinced that USB is any more difficult to tolerate than PS2, I do believe that the ball mouses are easier to tolerate than the optical mouses. Marc |

They will block electric if grounded. The low frequency magnetic field
they won't block. Bill On Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 11:57 AM, Aline <[hidden email]> wrote: > I thought that these shields block electric fields as well as RF. Hi Aline,
Yes, having your hands on the keyboard or mouse IS likely to affect you. When I hold my Zap Checker over the (ball type) mouse, I can clearly see the meter go from 2 up to 80 as I close in on the last half inch. It is strongest near the cord from the computer, )and this is with a coil clamped on the cord at the computer end.) This is a problem with no good solution. I tried gloves, and it seemed to make a small difference for me. It might help if I could ground them to a different circuit or ground. I have simply had to retrain myself to "Remove the hand from the mouse" when not in use, like when reading. Just remember, the computer radiates EMF noise, as does the monitor, and all components attached to it.
